    1. Re: [NOR] Edward Sidenbender «Senderbender» - born MN 1883 - lived 1900 in Faribault Co., MN - what happened to him?
    2. Lars E. Oyane
    3. Dear Greg and other Listers! Thank you very much, Greg, for your interesting message on the Sidenbender family. Several years ago I ran a thorough study of the Sidenbender family which brought me bach to Ohio and Indiana. It appears they are all somehow related, and I guess they originally came over from Germany in the late 1700’s. I studied that Edward very particularly, but only to discover that he was, I believe, a 2nd cousin of the Edward that I am looking for. His age is also several years off! So. I am sorry to say, Edward Sidenbender in Paris, IL is indeed a «blind track». Thanks again for your willingness to help me out! «My» Edward has to be out there somewhere, but as Professor Gerhard Naeseth of Madison, WI used to say: «We haven’t looked at the right place, yet»! It could be we have to figure ut how «our» Edward «twisted» his name… (the 1895 St. Paul, MN census shows him as Sydenbender…) Very sincerely yours, Lars E. Oyane ~~~~~~~~~~~~~ > On May 18, 2017, at 7:08 PM, Gregory Holter <[email protected]> wrote: > > Lars, I have found some information on an Edward Sidenbender at Fold3.com. > > There is a SSDI entry for him as died Dec 1969, last residence Paris, Illinois. His nearest relative is listed as Mary M. Sidenbender, also in Paris, Illinois. He is listed as a self-employed farmer. > > There is also a WWII "old man's" draft registration dated April 27, 1942, that lists Someone Who Will Always Know your Address as "C. H. Sidenbender" S. On the other hand, I wonder how many Edward Sidenbenders there might have been. That doesn't seem like that common of a surname. > Greg Holter > ~~~~~ > From: Lars E. 1. Re: [NOR] Edward Sidenbender «Senderbender» - born MN 1883 - lived 1900 in Faribault Co., MN - what happened to him?
    2. Gregory Holter
    3. Lars, I have found some information on an Edward Sidenbender at Fold3.com. There is a SSDI entry for him as died Dec 1969, last residence Paris, Illinois.  But it says he was born 13 May 1886 so maybe he is not the correct Edward Sidenbender. There is also a WWI draft registration card dated September 12, 1918, giving the same birth date, also listing his residence as Paris, Illinois. Main Street, Paris, Illinois. There is also a 1930 census of Paris, Illinois that shows Edward and wife Nettie, but it lists Edward's parents as born in the United States so given that and the birthdate discrepancy, this is probably not your Edward.  On the other hand, I wonder how many Edward Sidenbenders there might have been.  That doesn't seem like that common of a surname. Dear Listers! This is a real challenge that I have been working with for years.  Maybe now, with the numerous newspapers that have been digitized, is it possible to figure out what happened to this guy? Edward Sidenbender, son av Charles Thomas aka Thomas C. Sidenbender from IN (1857-1945) and Guro aka Julia nee Beim from Norway (1864-1891), was born in St. Paul, MN Apr. 20, 1883, but came at the age 7 to a local orphanage in St. Paul, MN where he grew up. His two younger brothers, Clarence and John, were adopted in 1895 by a family in Dodge Co., MN, but for some unknown reason they didn’t take Edward, and in the 1900 census we find Edward Senderbender as a farm laborer with the Alfred Frederick family in Dunbar township, Faribault Co., MN, then said to be born in MN in December of 1882!  He is no longer with the Fredericks in 1905 or 1910, but nobody knows what happened to him! I should add that his father Charles Thomas aka Thomas C. Sidenbender also disappeared from St. Paul, MN in the early 1890’s, and he didn’t she up in any census records until 1930, then residing with a cousin in Vigo Co., IN.  He later moved to Tampa, FL, and he died at a Soldier’s Home at Bay Pines, FL June 18, 1945.  (He had fought in the US Army against the Indians at Ft. Yates, ND in the late 1870’s!) Could it be that father and son stayed in contact between 1900 and 1930?  I have no idea… Any suggestions would be more than welcome! Very sincerely yours, Lars E. Oyane
