Dear Listers! I have for quite some time been trying to reach the secretary or the Pastor of the old Wanamingo Lutheran church in Wanamingo, Goodhue Co., MN, but I have so far never been successful in finding anyone by phone. Can someone please help me? I would in general be interested in seeing the old parish records and possibly obtaining copies of them (for which I would of course be willing to pay), but at this point I am looking for the birth or confirmation record for: Johnetta M. What is the reference that suggests Peter went to America in 1900, Earl? If Peter was born 22 Sep 1884 he would have been only 16 in 1900. So where would he have been going in 1900? Was there family in Canada or the US? His Ellis Island record 10 Jun 1907 on the SS Caledonia says he has not been in the USA before. His destination is the Norwegian Sailor's Home in New York. Hi Earl, Do you know which shipping line he took in 1907? He may have made passage on the same line. THey could perhaps give you passenger lists of their ships for the years in question. Earl, Barbara's suggestion made me think about NorwayHeritage.com which is a free website full of extremely useful information for finding emigration data. It has articles and photos on what it was like to come steerage, as virtually all our ancestors did, at whatever period. He divides the search section into two time periods, and you can specify line if you know it. I found one very early set of ancestors here, including the image, of their leaving Norway. The name was spelled slightly wrong in the transcript, but the image was very clearly my family. There are also images of many of the ships. Also some ports, like Liverpool, a likely first stop for people coming from Trondheim, will show for a given line, day by day, which ships left, for which US port. For another of my families, I was able to narrow down which of two Cunard ships they left on, and which US ports those ships went to. One went to NY, the other to Boston. At the time I found that, Ancestry didn't have the data up yet, but within a short time, someone found them for me, landing in Boston. So if you haven't tried this wonderful site, I'd take a look. There's a section on people going to Canada, which didn't apply to my families, though maybe I *should* look there for the two great grandfathers I still can't find! Hope this helps. I thought he might be Dutch too even though he gave his name as Anders Frederic De Hon for his naturalization nationality Swedish. Perhaps he gave his place of origin as Sweden because he signed on as a seaman there and worked his way to the UK. If he was Swedish I think De Hon was perhaps an assumed name. His children's births have been registered under several spellings Anders/Andrew/Alexander de Hon/Deflon/de Flou/de Flon. His death is s registered as Andrew De Hon in 1905 and his mother was Caroline. Here is the crew list of seaman on the "Peter Maxwell" He has been indexed as Andrew Z de Hon aged 34 Seaman from Sweden http://mariners.records.nsw.gov.au/1858/01/016pet.htm if you scroll down and click on the *scan* a digital image of the original crew list can be seen. Hello List, Is there anyone familiar with this Swedish surname please? I searched the Swedish list archives, no result so perhaps the spelling of his name is incorrect. Anders Fredric De Hon, he also used the name De Flon in Australia. Born 1834 Sweden arrived as crew on the “Peter Maxwell” 10 January 1858 from Liverpool in England to Sydney, Australia. He was naturalized 12 Jan 1875 nationality Swedish. Does *De Hon* sound Swedish I have never attempted Swedish research with so little information, I am trying to assist another researcher. His death certificate states his mother was Caroline no father's name recorded. Although his first son was named Gustavas. Many thanks in advance for any advice. Elizabeth

Ole, the farmer, walked into an attorney's office wanting to file for a divorce. Attorney: "May I help you?" Ole: "Yea, I want to get one of those dayvorces." Attorney: "Well, do you have any grounds?" Ole: "Ya sure, I got about 140 acres." Attorney: "No, you don't understand, do you have a case?" Ole: "No, I don't have a Case, but I have a John Deere." Attorney: "No, you don't understand. I mean do you have a grudge?" Ole: "Ya sure, I got a grudge. That's where I park my John Deere." Attorney: "No sir, I mean do you have a suit?" Ole: "Yes sir, I got a suit. I wear it to church on Sundays." Attorney: "Well, sir, does your wife beat you up or anything?" Ole: "No sir, we both get up about 4:30." Finally the attorney says: "Okay, let me put it this way. WHY DO YOU WANT A DIVORCE?" And the Ole the farmer says: "Well, I can never have a meaningful conversation with her." Hi Elizabeth, Many years ago I was reading about lace making - I have my Swedish grandmother's lace making pillow and wanted to know more. As I recall, many Swedish women made lace and much of it was sold to the Belgians and Dutch. Clarke's mention of the name sounding like a Dutch name, brought it to mind and perhaps it might help with your search.
