Dear Listers, There is another marriage record from Everett, Snohomish Co., WA which I fail to find in the Washington State Marriage Index. Maybe someone can help me by searching NEWSPAPER NOTICES? Earnest Paschal SHEPHERD of Everett, WA, born in Christian Co., KY Oct. 22, 1885, divorced, and Bertha Marie JOHNSON, nee HILLESTAD of Everett, WA, born in Renville Co., MN July 7, 1887, also divorced must have married between 1930 and 1935. Any assistance to find the exact date (and place) of their marriage would be very much appreciated! Very sincerely yours, Lars E. Oyane
Dear Listers! I have discovered that the online Washington marriage index made by the Washington Digital Archives is not 100% complete, and I have just come across another case which I hope someone can help me solve, maybe by checking local NEWSPAPER NOTICES? Edward Clarence HJORT of Everett, WA, born in Snohomish Co., WA Aug. 14, 1912, and Juanita M. GWILLIAM of Everett, WA, born in Sedgwick Co., KS July 25, 1921 must have married in 1940 or 1941 and had one son before they divorced, apparently in 1942(?). Any assistance to find the exact date (and place) of their marriage would be very much appreciated! Very sincerely yours, Lars E. Oyane
I noticed you haven't gotten any respinse to this one. I believe you could order from here: http://www.interflora.no/kondolanse.199574.no.html or here: http://www.euroflorist.no/En/Home?gclid=COCjuvzTvsUCFQENcwodJUQAaA The latter one is the only one Ihave seen with pages in English. I can't speak to tradition for a tribute to teh deceased as I ma not sure what you mean. If one know the deceaseds wife or anychildren one might send flowers to them, or to the funeral to the deceased, often with a ribbon that have a few words on them, like rest in peace, will always misss you or something like that. In some peoples funeral notice it might be said rather than flowers please donate to this or that organization, like cancer, heart organisations, or to the place they stayed or whoever might have assisted them. The reason you don't found this entry is that the page 250 is wrong, it should be page 300. If you go to all the books from Troms you can find book 3 for Tromsø (there are two of them): http://www.arkivverket.no/URN:tl_read?idx_primreg=PBOK&idx_fylke=19&idx_textsearch=&js=j And then go to page 300 and you will find it on the left page. Dear List, Jostein helped me find one of the property records that interests me (my 2d great grandfather's purchase of the last farm he owned before he immigrated to the US). Under the best of circumstances, I could do no more than get the gist of the document, but unfortunately the handwriting is a bit scrawlish and hard to read. Can anyone help to transcribe it? *Permanent pagelink:* http://www.arkivverket.no/URN:tl_read?idx_id=17249&uid=ny&idx_side=-301 The entry of interest is the one on the left-hand page, about halfway down, that does not have the vertical line crossing through it, for Ole Eriksen. Thanks. -- James Aylard
Thanks, Jostein. Very helpful as always! So are you saying that the page number is never reliable? Or that occasionally the clerk made an error? It seems this should be straightforward, but every approach I attempt in an effort to locate detailed entries from Norwegian real estate books fails. For example, an entry on the right-hand page linked below shows a pantebok reference of No. 3, Fol. 250. Dear Listers! Another "big challenge" for you, which I have tried to solve for years: Peder Ludvigson Walager aka Peter Ludwigson aka Peter Walker was born in Hafslo parish, Luster Co., Norway Mar. 11, 1833, the oldest son of Ludvig (Nitter) Larson Walager and Britha Pedersdotter Marum. Peter emigrated as a single man to Wisconsin in 1870. When his brother Lars Walager's estate was settled in Norway in 1884, Peter was said to reside at DANE STATION, WI, which I presume must be in or near Dane township in Dane Co., WI, possibly in Lodi, Columbia Co., WI. When Peter emigrated in 1870, he was accompanied by his nephew, his sister Karen's only child: Anders aka Andrew Olson or Walager or Walker, born in Hafslo parish, Luster Co., Norway Feb. 20, 1853. Any chance these two men can possibly be located in US records? Maybe passenger lists? Maybe newspaper items? Thanks a million in advance for any suggestions! Very sincerely yours, Lars E. Oyane
Dear Listers, Another challenge has come up which I would like to share with you: Susanna Nilsdotter (Walager) born July 6, 1848 Hafslo, Norway emigrated in 1866 The 1870 census shows Susan with parents Nels (Solfestson) and Anna (Larsdotter) residing on a farm in Vermont township, Dane Co., WI - Susanna has two (illegitimate) children: * Ole - born in WI fall 1866 * Mary - born in WI fall 1868 I strongly suspect Susan "on purpose" "twisted " these names, since the birth records show: * Anna Betzine, born in McFarland, Dane Co., WI Sep. 8, 1866 - parents Peder Pederson and Susanna Nilsdotter * Kjerstine Fredrikke, born in Vermont, Dane Co., WI Aug. 11, 1868 - parents Nils Lasseson and Susanna Nilsdotter Susanna's mother Anna died in Vermont township, Dane Co., WI about 1873, and in Dec. of 1876 Nels "Sylvester" remarried in Lodi, Columbia Co., WI Christine Olson, a widow from Lodi, WI where he died about 1890. Any suggestions in regard to the destiny of Susanna and/or her children would be more than welcome! Also I would be very interested in possible NEWSPAPER ITEMS regarding this family - maybe Bels Solfestson "Sylvester" can be discovered in Lodi, WI? A DEATH NOTICE? Very sincerely yours, Lars E. Oyane
Kneel, I'd change the subject line to "Prepositions: off topic, was: re, etc," but I don't know how to do that. I'm sure some experienced lister will tell me how! I've never yet seen five prepositions in a row, and you must have worked hard to construct that sentence. The child wouldn't very likely have been able to. Yet it does make a sort of sense. Remember, I said ignore the rule, as long as the sentence makes sense. You have to admit that at bare minimum, the one you constructed is awkward. As someone who taught English many moons ago, I'd tell a student of mine to rewrite it, not that it was wrong. : ) Doris On Fri, May 8, 2015 at 10:06 AM, <nhofland@juno.com> wrote: > Hi All, > > A child is sick with a minor illness. Where did you find the emigration record? I have not been able to spot them in records leaving Rennebu and I find no emigration records for Meldal in 1900. What are the names / dates (ages) of KNOWN children born to this couple? Have a nice day! Clark in Japan On 08-May-15 12:08 AM, Virginia Lindsey via wrote: > ... (Ole E.
