    3. Dear Cliff, Mark and other Listers, Thank you very much, Cliff, for your latest comment on Chuck Wadelin! It is sometimes indeed a "small world"! In the meantime I have also found out Chuck Wadelin was for several years a resident of the US Naval Base on Hawaii, and I wonder, wouldn't that reflect where Chuck was residing at the time of his marriage, Puohala village Kaneohe in Honolulu Co., HI? I have also found out he was born at Pt. Orchard, WA, so, my biography on the Wadelins seems to come fairly well together! Thanks again for your great assistance in this matter! 1. [NOR] Robert Donald Walker (military?) and wife Edith (Luchier) - St. Paul, MN 1959 - a challenge!
    2. Lars E. Oyane via
    3. Dear Listers! I have this evening finally managed to obtain contact with a lady whose family background is very "diffuse". Her mother: Edith L. Walker, whose mother's maiden name was Luchier, born in Michigan (or Minnesota? - very often the state references in the California death index of MI and MN have been "mixed"!) Apr. 18, 1927, was killed in a car accident in Los Angeles, CA Dec. 2, 1961. Her husband, Robert Donald, aka Donald Walker (born in Sioux Falls, SD Jan. 22, 1924, raised in Eau Claire, WI, died in Los Angeles, CA Jan. 20 1977) brought the little girl to his sister in San Diego, CA to be raised with her. The daughter, the lady I just talked to, was born in St. Paul, MN in August of 1959, but was eventually adopted by her aunt, and her birth certificate does not show in the MN birth index! She tells me that her father Donald Walker was a military (officer?) residing at St. Paul, MN at the time she was born, but he was "kicked out" due to alcoholism, and then the family shortly thereafter moved to Los Angeles, CA! I have two questions: * Is it possible to find Robert Donald aka Donald Walker in any military records from Minnesota (or elsewhere)? * Is it at all possible to identify the wife, Edith L., whose mother's maiden name was Luchier? Any assistance in this matter would be greatly appreciated, both by their daughter as well as by myself! Very sincerely yours, Lars E. Oyane

Frederich Wilhelm von Printzen, born in Norway in 1697, the eldest son of Major Hjob Wilhelm von Printzen and his wife Birgitta Chalanna. This information comes from Naval Officerers since 1660. Commander Captain Friderich Wilhelm von Printzen married Susanna Elisabeth Clavel de Letang at Holmens Kirk in Denmark on 22 October 1734 - he was aged 37 and she aged 19. According to his naval records, it shows on 7 January 1740 Friderich was recruiting officer in Egersund and in 1743 he was on the naval ship Nordstiernen in Esk. On 10 June 1747 he was Commander Captain. He died on 25 January 1748 in Kobenhavn. Otto Henrik von Printzen, son of Major Hjob Wilhelm von Printzen and I think a Birgitte Chalanna. According to Ovenstad's Militaerbiographier den Norske Hoers Officerer Fra 18 Januar 1628-17 Mai 1814, pp 267-268, it says he was born between 1701/05 in Kristiansand Norway. Entered military service ca 1719 and served first with the naval cadets for three years and later with Romlings infantry regiment. He retired on 9 December 1760 and died in 1761. He was buried on 20 November 1761 in Kristiana (vor Freisers Kirke). He married Tugendreich Sophie Zeplin (daughter of Jaegermaester Joachim Christoffer von Zeplin and his third wife Ida von Rheder. Birgitte Cathrine von Printzen - no record at all for her birth but she was the youngest of the family. She married a Captain Peter Helmich who came from Hamburg. He and Birgitte lived in Fredrikstad, Ostfold, Norway where Peter died on 21 February 1738. Birgitte then moved to Kobenhavn and became Lady in Waiting to Queen Louise - her father, Major Hjob Wilhelm von Printzen lived with her until his death in 1740. Any help at all will be most appreciated. I strongly suspect this be "our" Ludvig, but can someone please help me find additional details about him? * An exact date and place of his death? * An obituary? * Maybe other newspaper clippings? * Where was he in the 1910, 1920 and 1930 censuses? Thanks a million in advance for your great assistance in this matter! Very sincerely yours, Lars E. Oyane

    3. Lars, A search for Ludvig Hillestad on FamilySearch.org gives his WWI draft registration, made in Mandan, North Dakota, in September 1918.  It has the correct birth date.  It indicates that he has lost an eye.  If you have trouble accessing this, let me know and I will forward a copy of the digitized image. 3. Dear Listers, I am trying to find birth records for my family who were born in Norway. Melva Printzen-Maguire --- This email has been checked for viruses by Avast antivirus software. http://www.avast.com

    3. Dear Greg and other Listers! Thank you very much, Greg, for your quick reply to my latest inquiry about Ludvig Hillestad - Helestad(?). There is no need to send me the WW1 draft record since I can also access this from my side (FamilySearch and ancestry.com). I can see why you question whether the Ludvig Helestad I found in Nelson Co., ND can be the "right" Ludvig! There was also a Ludvig Helseth who in 1918 was a resident of Petersburg in Nelson Co., ND, and he was born near Aalesund, Norway Dec. 5, 1885! Hmmm, I wonder... But then I see on ancestry.com a family tree of one Louis Nicoli Helseth, born in Norway Dec. 4, 1884, who died in Anoka, MN July 8, 1967! He does look suspiciously like Ludvig Helseth, doesn't he? His SS record even shows he was born Dec. 4, 1885! SO, I still believe Ludvig Helestad in the East Sarnia cemetery in Nelson Co., ND MAY be "my" Ludvig...? Thanks again for any suggestions and assistance to find the answers to my questions!! Very sincerely yours, Lars E.
