    1. [NOR] Erick A. Hill of Everett, WA - died in Portland, OR 1894? - newspaper notice?
    2. Lars E. Oyane via
    3. Dear Listers, I have for years tried to figure out what became of this gentleman: Erick Anderson HILL born in Hafslo parish, Luster Co., Norway Mar. 9, 1861 He emigrated in the late 1870's to Swift Co., MN had by 1887 removed to Everett, WA where he is recorded in 1887 and 1889. He then disappears! Find-a-grave has an interesting entry in the Lone Fir Pioneer Cemetery in Portland, OR: Erick HILL - no birthdate - died in April of 1894 Is there any way we can find out whether this be the same person? Maybe a news item from Portland, OR? Thanks a million for your great assistance in this matter! Very sincerely yours, Lars E. Oyane

    3.  In trying to find Kari Rolandsdatter's family, I went through some old notes and I find another puzzle. Berge's was left an orphan in 1858 and his guardian in the probate record was Arne Pederson Linde (wife Kari Ellingsdatter Linde).   In a paper I copied it says that in Linde Bruk 4, Arne Person Linde vart fodd I 1823 og vart gift I 1841 med Kari Ellingsdotter Kvamme. Could this be the same person as Berge's guardian?   Thanks again for any help, Marilyn   From: "maeallen" <maeallen@comcast.net> To: "maeallen" <maeallen@comcast.net>, norway@rootsweb.com Sent: Wednesday, May 13, 2015 1:59:55 PM Subject: Re: [NOR] Berge Olson Linde Family Hello Cliff and all listers,   More questions about Kari Rolandsdatter. 3. Dear Barbara, Annette and other Listers! Thank you very much for your latest contributions to my inquiry about Robert Donald and Edith Walker! I have forwarded the reference to the National Archives to their daughter, Lori, encouraging her to go ahead ordering a service record for her father! By the way, I should mention: According to the daughter Lori, and also from what her adoptive mother/aunt have said, Robert Donald and Edith had TWO daughters, the older one called Deborah, was born about 1954, but according to Lori, Deborah was taken away from her mother at a young age and given up for adoption! We run into an interesting family history, but it also sounds like a history full of pain and suffering! I am sure a lot of interesting information could be revealed if relatives of Edith's in Minnesota could be located. Some of her siblings may still be alive...! Very sincerely yours, Lars E. 3. Having been married on a military base . . . A wedding on a base would have been performed by a military chaplain (a minister assigned to that base--a big base might have several from different denominations) and would be regulated by and reported to the state or city where the marriage took place. I assume there is also a record kept by the base chapel, just like by any other church. (The base we were married on is now closed, and I have never looked for those chapel records.) Nothing would have been reported back to the home towns. 3. Dear Barbara, Jim, Mark and other listers! Words are just too poor to express the pleasure and gratitude for that wonderful information that you, Mark, have found in just a few hours in regard to Edith Sayers Walker! I am highly impressed! And particularly since her birthdate was so far off! I will forward this information to Edith's daughter! I am convinced she will be just as thrilled as I at this wonderful information! Now only two questions remain: * Where can the marriage of Robert Donald Walker and Edith Sayers have occurred on Nov. 11, 1958. Maybe in St. Paul, MN? The Ramsey Co., MN marriages have not yet been added to the Minnesota Marriage Index, and Ramsey Co., MN is where the daughter was born in 1959! * Then the question about Robert Donald Walker's military engagement. But maybe this will be hard to figure out? I have also been informed that Robert Donald Walker also lived for a while in Eau Claire, WI after he was grown up! Thanks again, Mark! What should I have done without you? Very sincerely yours, Lars E. I have this evening finally managed to obtain contact with a lady whose family background is very "diffuse". Her mother: Edith L. Walker, whose mother's maiden name was Luchier, born in Michigan (or Minnesota? - very often the state references in the California death index of MI and MN have been "mixed"!) Apr. 18, 1927, was killed in a car accident in Los Angeles, CA Dec. 2, 1961. The daughter, the lady I just talked to, was born in St. Paul, MN in August of 1959, but was eventually adopted by her aunt, and her birth certificate does not show in the MN birth index! She tells me that her father Donald Walker was a military (officer?) residing at St. Paul, MN at the time she was born, but he was "kicked out" due to alcoholism, and then the family shortly thereafter moved to Los Angeles, CA! I have two questions: * Is it possible to find Robert Donald aka Donald Walker in any military records from Minnesota (or elsewhere)? * Is it at all possible to identify the wife, Edith L., whose mother's maiden name was Luchier? Any assistance in this matter would be greatly appreciated, both by their daughter as well as by myself! Very sincerely yours, Lars E. Oyane

    3. Dear Greg and other Listers! I wanted to let you all know; this problem has been solved: Ludvig was found residing 1925 in Cleveland township, Walsh Co., ND and in 1930 in Dahlen township, Nelson Co., ND. This is not far from the East Sarnia cemetery, and by phone I have now examined the records of the Sarnia Lutheran church which tell me that Ludvig Hillestad (with this spelling!) died on Mar. 15, 1937 at the Hospital in Lakota, ND! His age shows a perfect "match"! So, one person less to be researched, although an OBITUARY would still be of interest in order to obtain more precise details about Ludvig's life...?
