    1. Re: [NOR] 2nd attempt: Obituary assistance Brinnon, WA - Newspaper assistance Stevenson, WA, please?
    2. Gregory Holter via
    3. Lars, After searching for a time for a Helen Mae Bartley born in February 1919 in the US censuses, I was drawing a blank.  Most of the possibilities were born back in the eastern United States, which didn't really make sense to me.  But then I noticed that in the 1940 census in the Sulphur Creek Election District in Lewis County, Washington, there is a Mae Bartley born 1919 married to a Bill Bartley.  It says that she was born in Idaho.  So maybe she was married previously to her marriage with Chester Melheim. Then  I went searching for Bill Bartley and came up with a marriage record on 1 May 1937 in Pacific County, Washington, between a William Reve Bartley and a Helen May Harrison.  The marriage record does not include birth dates or locations. So I wonder if this might be your Helen Mae Bartley.  All of these events occurred in western Washington.  But this is really circumstantial evidence, without some additional information. I checked and there are several Helen Bartleys in the 1930 census born in Idaho, but that census does not give birth month and year so I don't know how to pick her out from the possibilities easily. Dear Listers, This inquiry was posted about three months ago together with two inquiries for obituaries from Puyallup, WA.  Cliff helped me with the ones from Puyallup, WA, but this one from Brinnon, WA is still unsolved: Helen Mae MELHEIM, nee Bartley born Feb. 10, 1919  - unknown where! died Feb. 19, 1984  - her cremains were buried in the Brinnon cemetery in Jefferson Co., WA She married Chester Earl Melheim (1925-2007) at Stevenson, WA Sep. 20, 1954, but they divorced within 10 years! I have not been able to find any funeral homes in Brinnon, WA, and my contact with nearby funeral homes in Bremerton, WA and other cities in Kitsap Co., WA has been to no avail. What I try to find out, is primarily: * The exact place of Helen's BIRTH? * The exact place of Helen's DEATH? * Year of their DIVORCE? This information would presumably be included in an OBITUARY for her, if one can be found?  Or maybe their DIVORCE is referred in local newspapers? Thanks a million in advance for your great assistance in this matter! Very sincerely yours, Lars E. Oyane

    3. I have tracked Olena (Lena or Oline) Christopherson (or Thorson) born 25 Feb 1863 in York, Fillmore county Minnesota and her husband George Swenson (born 19 Nov 1857 in Norway) from their marriage 09 Jan 1881, Canfield, Fillmore county Minnesota to their years in St. Thomas, Pembina county, North Dakota to their final move before 1920 to Los Angeles. George dies in Los Angeles 21 of April 1947 and Lena dies the 7 Sep 1947, also in Los Angeles. We need help in finding where they are buried. Does anyone on the list have any suggestions on finding an obituary for either of them. I have tried Find a Grave but there are so many dead people in Los Angeles that it is hard to find where they are buried? Thanks for any ideas on where they could be! Carol in Kentucky

    3. I forgot to mention that I looked at the nearby papers hoping to find something. The only mention of an April 2 death was the same article in both the Dalles (east of Portland) and Astoria (West of Portland). Both articles were in the April 3rd edition. If they can report a death from Paris, it shouldn’t be hard to report a local death. PARIS, April 2 - Prof. Brown Sequared, the supposed inventor of the elixir of life, died here today. I love how short both articles are. Nothing more needs to be said.

There is a simple death notice in the Seattle Daily Times for March 14, 1931 " Davey, Emma - 1600 Terry Ave., 37 - March 12" There are some other references to an Emma Davey, but they are from 1939, 1943, and 1949--too late for your Emma. There are also some articles about women named Emma Holte, but none are the right Emma. Marian On Mon, May 18, 2015 at 5:14 PM, Lars E. 1. Re: [NOR] Final attempt: Andrew (1829) and Dorthea "Tilda" (1845) Sorenson - Burke Co., ND - HELP PLEASE?
    2. Lars E. Oyane via
    3. Dear Listers! I have today revealed that Ole A. Martinson of Leaf Mountain township, Burke Co., ND, born May 12. 1879, was indeed born on this date, but he came from Stange County in Hedmark fylke and is no relation to "our" Ole! But what a coincidence this was, same first name Ole, same father's first name Anders, same birthdate May 12, 1879, and almost the same emigration year (one in 1882, the other one in 1885)!! So, back again to "last stage". What in the world may have become of this family in the US? Any suggestions would be gold worth! Very sincerely yours, Lars E.
