    3. Oh, my. I'm so used to getting great help from the Norwegians, I just blindly plowed ahead. Sorry, I'll resend to the Swedes. And, thanks to both Don and Bev for politely saying..."Hey, we are Norwegians, not Swedes!" Smiles, Yvonne

    3. First, I'd suggest you subscribe to the Sweden List and ask these same questions of them. I'm sure they can help you since you have parish names and to find records in Sweden's Arkiv Digital records a parish name is necessary. Same routine as subscribing to the Norway List - write Subscribe in the Subject line, follow instructions in the confirmation email: [email protected] From an atlas with maps of the Swedish läns/counties featuring borders and names from pre-1997 changes (Some läns have changed names since then): Ekshårad is in Hagfors Härad, Värmlands län. Voxna is in Ovanåker Härad, Gävleborgs län. [Yes, like in Norway, V/W are interchangeable, so Woxna is an alternative spelling.] Linköping is a parish name (Linköpings domkyrkafg ?sp on the map), in Linköping Härad, Östergötlands län. If you want, off-list I can send you the individual map pages (some läns are on two pages), or a zipped file of 17.7 MB with all the pages of the atlas (the latter only if your ISP server will take a file that large). The maps have been invaluable in "following in the footsteps" of my own Swedish ancestors, some of whom moved to one or more parishes. Modern Swedish map web site: https://kso.etjanster.lantmateriet.se/?e Besides Arkiv Digital (fee-based web site), there is also SVAR which has some information (top right, click on Other languages, then English): https://sok.riksarkivet.se/svar-digitala-forskarsalen Swedish dictionaries (some of which can be downloaded; the copyright expired ages ago): http://swedishgenealogyguide.com/dictionaries/1788-swedish-english-dictionary https://books.google.com/books?id=hIECAAAAQAAJ http://swedishgenealogyguide.com/dictionaries/swedish-historical-dictionary-database-shdd https://books.google.com/books?id=oOAFAAAAQAAJ https://books.google.com/books?id=ZXstAAAAYAAJ https://books.google.com/books?id=BMEDAAAAQAAJ http://translation.babylon-software.com/swedish/to-english/Swedish-English-Online-Dictionary/ Hope this helps some. I am not currently subscribed to Arkiv Digital, so I can't look up the records for you. 3. Listers: I'm on the trail of two possible relatives but I'm not doing well. I hope you can help me out with family information on two people who lived and died in Sweden in different places and during different time frames. Some of my known Swedish ancestors were born in/around Hara, Ekshärad, Värmland and had the surname, Pihlström. The possible relatives are Håkan Pihlström and Anna Mathilda (not sure about Anna's middle name) Pihlström. Håkan was b. at Ekshärad in 1827 and d. at Gävleborgs län in 1877. Håkan's wife is likely Carin Jansdotter also born at Ekshärad in 1827 and died at Stockholm in 1877. Anna Mathilda(?) Pihlström b. at Woxna, Gävleborgs län, Sweden in 1857 and died in 1935 at Stockholm. Anna married Carl Ludwig Cassel b. at Linköping, Östergötland, Sweden in 1843 and died at Stockholm in 1922. 3. Just some thoughts about this thread:  Cemeteries should have Interment records that will provide information about the original purchaser of the plot or plots, and a list of the names of the people who are buried there....date of death, and date of burial. I have learned a lot by reviewing these records:  babies who died, but were un-named and who (for whatever reason) don't seem to be listed in official records; cause of death, especially for a person who died very long ago, and recently, that the date of death on the monument (1930s) was off by a lot...(he died in 1948!) No wonder I couldn't find a death certificate! If you have an approximate date of death and a surname, you can write to the cemetery administrator and inquire about the interment records.  Sometimes there is a fee; other times I offer a donation. Regards, Carol Dallas >

    3. I’ve been looking at newspaper articles and trying to follow Andrew Olson and daughter Christine “Olson” Robinson. They are very confusing. Just for reference, here’s Charles and wife Christine in Find-a-Grave: Charles Percy "Charlie" Robinson Birth: Oct. 1, 1874; Williams, Hamilton County, Iowa Death: Jul. 31, 1950; Sheridan, Sheridan County, Wyoming Spouse: Christine O. 3. Dear Mark, Annette and other Listers! Thank you very much for your latest messages in regard to the Severson/Jacobson family. I have been in contact with the local parish, and it now seems like the «Larsina-problem» may be solved! Here is part of the message which I received: ~~~~~ Sever A. Jacobson, born 1828, died Jan. 12, 1900 The official death record for Siver from Sibley Co., MN shows he died Jan. 2, 1899, which is correct, I don’t know! Sever Jacobson The cemetery marker reads 1828-1900 – Norwegian Grove Lutheran Cemetery There is no record of a funeral (church service) which implies he was not a member of the congregation. Inger Jacobson, his wife, born 1833, died Jan. 15, 1917 Inger Martha Jacobsen Died 14 January 1917 Burial (church service) 19 January 1917 – Norwegian Grove Lutheran Cemetery Age 84 Parents: Rasmus & Gjøri Spouse: Syvar A. Jacobsen Larsina (in Find-a-grave showing as L. A. Ena(!)), born 1831, died 1903 There are two records! – Norwegian Grove Lutheran Cemetery The church book records: Lasena Jakobsen Died 11 December 1899 and buried 13 December 1899 These dates are recorded in the recorded in the official book (but no other information) There does not appear to be a cemetery marker (is this the same as the Lasena below?) The cemetery marker says: Lasena Jacobson 1831-1903 Again, there is no record of a funeral service with this date (church service). This marker appears to be a concrete (cement) markers which was not purchased from a monument company, but rather was made on a farm. It appears to be concrete that had the dates written in it—did the one who made this just guess at the years and it is the same as the Lasena above? ~~~~~ Strange how «wrong» some of these tombstones may be; I have seen several examples of inexact dates, but FOUR YEARS off!? Maybe an official death record can be found for Larsina Gurine Jacobson in Sibley Co., MN in 1899? Thanks again to all of you for your great interest and assistance in this matter! Very sincerely yours, Lars E. Oyane PS: By the way, it appears that Sever Jacobson’s wife Inger had a daughter Nikolina «Lena» born in Borgund Co., Norway in 1860. She emigrated with her mother and later became the wife of Louis Overson, Ole Overson’s son!! ~~~~~~~~~~~~ > On Jan 30, 2017, at 12:05 PM, Mark Erickson <[email protected]> wrote: > > Hei Lars, > There’s a website for the cemetery and church that has a couple of Church histories with old church records pictured. 3. Dear Mark, Jerry and other Listers! Thank you very much, Mark, for sending me the Bakken obituaries from Thief River Falls, MN. They contained some very interesting facts which I need for my manuscript, but, unfortunately, there is no mention of siblings in Peter’s obituary, which was my «big» hope… Well, I guess the search has to go on… As far as the John Olson family of Towner Co., ND is concerned, I have found the family in the 1910 census. At that time this John’s wife Olea was still alive and well as an older daughter. Also the son Ole’s age is 10 years off «my» John’s son Ole so this is definitely NOT the John who was Peter’s brother… Thanks again for your wonderful assistance tracing these «elusive» emigrant families from Sogn! 3. Thank you for that information.  I have posted a few queries to other lists lately, and I could see my query in the Archives, but never received a copy.  Nor did I get even a single response to my queries.  I know that it is possible that no one knew the answer to either question, but highly unlikely.
