    3. I have those three books, as well as the little volume of Norwegians in America by Knud Langeland, and History of the Norwegian Settlements by Hjalmar Rued Holand. I also have Between Rocks and Hard Places by Ann Urness Gesme, but I see it's no longer offered on Astri My Astri. I found them helpful since I was born and raised in MN in a community that was very heavily populated with Norwegian-Americans, so the bios and histories resonated with me. Vol. 2 & 3 of Ulvestad's books consist mostly of indices of names with references, sometimes mini-bios. Who are you looking for? For anyone else interested, all of these books are now on sale at the Astri My Astri web site. Gourley is prompt in sending out books once they are ordered. I got mine a week or less after ordering. 3. I'm writing concerning the books you are talking about. I was told that there is a series of books about Norwegians in America that documents every single Norwegian that immigrated before, I really don't remember the exact date, but it was something like before 1845. I don't remember the exact date. The Norwegian I would be interested in is Halvor Anderse(o)n. I read about him emigrating in a Bygdebok, and the emigration date was 1845. I have been unable to find any more information about him. Maybe he died on the way over, or he could have died before the book was written. He was a brother to my great grandfather. Any information would be greatly appreciated. The books have been in the Mesa Family History Center library. However, the library has been closed for a few years now. All the books are packed away, and they have no idea what they're going to about the building. 2. Lisbeth Dyrnes
    3. I need help to find descendants of those three sisters from Velfjord. Their mother, Berthe Otelia Pedersdatter Hilstad was born in Velfjord Sept 21,1842. She got 3 daughters out of wedlock: Inga Petra Elisabeth Oct 7, 1863 - father Lauritz Ingebrigtsen Anna Amalia April 16, 1873 - father Ole Stefensen Bakken Hilma Marie Augusta Oct 13, 1880 - father Johan/Johannes Johansen/Johannesen from Sweden. Inga disappeared from Velfjord before census 1891. There is a Inga Hilstad going to USA 1881, which might be her, but if so given age is wrong, as the records says 26 years old, and our Inga would only be 18. Hilma gave birth to a daughter in Trondheim Nov 9, 1905. This daughter was adopted by a family in Trondheim short time after baptism, and grew up as Agnes Bergljot Huseby. Census 1910 shows Berthe, Anna and Hilma living in Oslo (Kristiania). Berthe passed away as a widow (must have been married after 1900) in Oslo on Nov 21, 1912. In Nov 1914 Anna and Hilma went to USA. Ellis Island records says Anna and Helena (not Hilma) Hilstad, going to sister Inga Halseth, 4240 ?..lop ave, Chicago, Ill. I have found a death record for Inge Petra Halseth in Chicago Dec 31, 1933. That must be our Inga I think. In the early 1980`s a woman from USA, most likely Minnesota, visited Norway, contacted Agnes`son and told them she was half sister of Agnes! That must mean Hilma got a child after she emigrated. I have tried a lot of different spellings on Anna, Hilma (Helen/Helena) Hilstad with no luck! I have tried 1920 census, find-a-grave and SSDI. I wonder if someone would be able to help me? Maybe Ingas obit would be helpful? I am helping Agnes grandson to get in touch with living descendants of Hilma in USA! Lisbeth Dyrnes

In 1900 census this family lived in Nedre-Eiker at the gard (farm) Mjøndalen in Buskerud county, with some more children born also in Drammen, Buskerud County <https://digitalarkivet.arkivverket.no/ft/person/pf01037120001947> Inger Elise's parents have been: Shipscarpenter Carl Antoni Pedersen + Karine Johansdr. Elise was born in Skouger (Skoger) parish, Vestfold county. They lived in 1857 at Hedensrudtangen <https://media.digitalarkivet.no/en/view/1134/109> The father Frederik Martinus Christophersen is born in 1857 see here: 6-9-1857 born 1 Juny 1857 Baptism of Frederik Martinus his parents Olavus Christophersen, arbeider + Anne K. Olsdr. Address Konggaden <https://media.digitalarkivet.no/view/1065/108> Frederik Martinius father: Olaves Christophersen was mentioned in 1865 census to have been born in Hof's prestegjeld ~1828, which could have been Hof in Hedmark or Hof in Vestfold. Unfortunately I could not find a wedding between Olaves Christophersen and Anne K. Olsdr in Bragernes/Drammen (I think the year is missing and forloververklarung are horrible to read.) I could not find a baptism in Hof parish in Hedmark in between 1827-1829. But in Hof parish, Vestfold county there was a baptism in 1828 of "an" Olaus Christophersen born 23 July 1828 of the parents Christopher Olsen Romseberg? (Rønneberg) + Berthe Taastensdr? #21 <https://media.digitalarkivet.no/view/8134/59> I would not know how we can check if this is the right Olavus Christophersen b. 1828. But Virginia: tell your friend that, except from visiting Bragernes/Drammen in Buskerud county and Skoger plus Hof in Vestfold county, there are 3 beautiful old stavechurches in Buskerud, Your friend certainly must visit those 3 stavechurches. Nore and Uvdal and Rollag Stavechurch <https://no.wikipedia.org/wiki/Liste_over_stavkirker_i_Norge> And driving by car in Buskerud county is like visiting a museum all the time. Everywhere old buildings, old farms along the road and there are more stavechurches in Buskerud to visit. Flesberg, Gol and Torpo are also in Buskerud county. So I whish your friend a good trip! 3. Dear Listers! I have received a copy of John N. Urness’ death certificate from Ramsey Co., MN. And it leaves me kind of wondering: Place of death is given as 360 (0r 366) E. 9th Street, St. Paul, MN Date and place of birth: Apr. 15, 1904 in St. Paul, MN Parents: Urness and Thorson (no first names) There is no informant! This information makes it very likely, John was NOT a son of Jacob Nelson Urness and his wife Georgina, but who were his parents? There was one Peter Urness family in St. Paul, MN at this time, but they lived on a different address, the mother wasn’t a Thorson, and no John N. fits into that family at all! John N. Urness turns into a true «mystery». Any suggestions who he may have been? Who lived on 360 or 366 E. 9th Street in St. Paul, MN in 1910? That address still seems to exist, near the intersection of I94 and I35E in Lowertown St. Paul, MN where Highway 52 takes off to the South… Thanks a million of any suggestions in this matter! 3. Lars, The closest searchable copy of the St Paul city directory I could find was for the year 1914. For 360 E 9th St I found these entries: Natcke Herman lab rms 360 E 9th Meyers Herman lab rms 360 E 9th Espey Edw lab rms 360 E 9th Smith W Wm F eng r 360 E 9th Nutzke Herman lab rms 360 E 9th For 366 E 9th St I found these entries: Cantiere Jno (Cantiere Bros) r 366 E 9th Campi Engio lab rms 366 E 9th Giannini Giulo carp rms 366 E 9th So it looks like these addresses might have been some kind of rooms for a hospital or a clinic or something. Not really sure. Bill On Wed, Feb 15, 2017 at 09:27 am, Lars E. Oyane <[email protected]> wrote: > Dear Listers! > > I have received a copy of John N. Urness’ death certificate from Ramsey Co., MN. 1. Re: [NOR] Drammen, Buskerud help
    2. Hello Virginia, I think it is the right family in 1900 census. But, you must ask your friend about the siblings names of Carl Frederik and you must ask which year Carl has been emigrating. Or look at the USA censusrecords yourself. Because its very difficult searching in Drammen/Bragernes records, some records are missing around 1880 and around 1855. 3. :-) There is something positive to be said for getting a pacemaker and ablation process and solving three of four heart ailments because of it (done 9 Nov '16); I'll be pacemaker dependent for the rest of my life. :-) I've pretty much recovered from all that, feel better, but still tire easily, still sleep a lot. Now I've got my days and nights turned around again, so when it's midday for you, it's time for me to go to sleep. My cat has become very clingy and is sometimes a pest since I had the procedures done so I tend to sleep when she does and be awake when she is. (Oh, the things we do for our pets! ;-)) I think there's more to be found for this family (the secret to finding it will be in the old DA web site where some of the records have been transcribed and there are links to the parish records) and scrolling through parish records. I don't know when Inger Elisabeth moved from Vestfold to Drammen/Bragernes. I tried to find the emigration records, didn't find any satisfactory hits, but I don't know if Carl Fredrik Christopherson (of whatever spelling or name) came to the US before or after 1900, or where he settled when he did get here. Utflytting records are not transcribed for the time period he would have emigrated, so I don't know where to start looking without some idea of a year of emigration/immigration. Maybe Virginia can find out that info so the Listers can find the info in Norwegian records. Virginia's friend: 96 years old and traveling to Norway! Wow, I'm jealous! Like you and the rest of the A-Team, I'm getting a kick out of finding this info so she can "walk in the footsteps of her ancestors" because of the genealogy info. I hope she has a laptop computer with her where she can have copies of the records and know just where to go to see where her ancestors lived and worked. 3. Lars, Good possibility this is Alfred Adams. There is a Clackamas County, Oregon connection with a first wife from there. There are also Adams and Dawson families in Bogle Township, Gentry County, Missouri. Witness at marriage matches his business partner. The 25 years could be in the Pacific Northwest rather than just Seattle (ca. 1875 to 1901) December 30, 1891 Alfred Adams, age 28, first marriage, white, residence, Seattle, laborer Born Ellenville, Iowa; parents John Adams and Polly Ann Dawson? Bride's Name: Ellen Arnold, age 17, first marriage, white, residence, Seattle Born Clackamas County, Oregon; parents Charles Arnold and M. Jane Richards Marriage Date: December 30, 1891, Seattle, King County, Washington Witnesses – Clinton B. and Mary Little 1890 Seattle, Washington Alfred D. Thank you very much for your efforts trying to identify and find further information about Alfred Adams! It is interesting to read he had resided in Seattle, WA for 25 years at the time of his death, and still there is absolutely no sign of him there before 1900! I do suspect, however, he be identical to this gentleman from the 1880 census of Eagle Creek Precinct, Clackamah Co., OR: JONES, E. D.  55  OH  NY  NY  farmerADAMS, Alferd  15  MO  MO  MO  servant And this Alfred is probably the one who in 1870 at the age of 5, born in MO, was a (foster?) child with Jacob and Anna Elizabeth Ochsenbein of Swiss origin farming in Bogle township, Gentry Co., MO.  The Ochsenbeins moved in the 1870’s to Milwaukie, Clackamas Co., OR where Jacob died as a widower May 16, 1884. It sounds like Alfred Adams’ life story is a hard one to trace… Thanks again for your great interest and efforts in this matter! Very sincerely yours, Lars E. Bertha Hendrickson from Luster Co., Norway (1859-1943) was married in Tacoma, WA July 21, 1900 to Alfred Adams, a Seattle, WA teamster, supposedly born in Missouri about 1865. Then I find the death record of Alfred ADAM(!) in Seattle, WA on Dec. 24, 1901 - cause of death: FRACTURE OF SKULL! I have no idea what happened, but the cause of death suggests a criminal act, unless he had a very tragic accident!?  In both cases I presume there should be a newspaper write-up about the incident, which I hope can be found? I am also interested in any information that can be found in regard to his origin in Missouri!? Thanks a million in advance for your great assistance in this matter! Very sincerely yours, Lars E.
