Contributed for use by Joan Hayward Helm pjhelm@pcpartner.net Vol. 9, 1829-1840, Page 389 Know all men by these presents, that I Hiram NORTON of Addison in the County of Addison and State of Vermont for and in consideration of the sum of fifteen hundred dollars current money of the United States received in full to my satisfaction of Joseph HAYWARD of Addison in the County of Addison and State of Vermont the receipt whereof I do hereby acknowledge, have given granted bargained and sold and by these presents do give grant bargain sell alien convey and confirm unto the said Joseph and his heirs and assigns forever the following pieces or parcels of land lying and being in Addison aforesaid to wit as follows ,viz, Beginning twenty rods east of the South east corner of Lot No 57 in the 2nd division at a pine stump thence east 155 rods thence north about 12 rods to the Channel of dead creek thence northerly down the channel of said creek as far north as will make 49 rods parallel with the south line thence west 166 rods to the east line of the NORTON farm thence south! 49 rods to the first mentioned bounds containing fifty one acres Also that part of the Murray farm so called which Abel NORTON late of Addison aforesaid died seized meaning to convey all that part of said farm which was set by the distributors of said Estate to Hiram NORTON bounded on the south by land owned by Mariah NORTON Orlando WILDER & Joseph HAYWARD East by Mariah NORTONs land North by Wheeler FRENCH West by Whitney C___K & Herman CONVERSE land for a more particular description of said land reference being had to the record of said distribution at the probate office containing twenty seven & ¼ acres – To have and to hold the above granted and bargained premises with all the privileges and appurtenances thereof and thereto belonging to him the said Joseph and his heirs and assigns to them and their own proper use benefit and behoof forever. And I the said Hiram NORTON do for myself and my heirs executors and administrators covenant to and with the said Joseph and his heirs executors administrators and assigns tha! t at and until the ____ of these presents I am well seized of the premises in fee simple and that I have good right and lawful authority to bargain and sell the same in manner and form as is above written that they are free and clear of all incumberances and that I will Warrant and Defend the same against all lawful claims and demands of any person or persons whatsoever – In witness whereof I have hereunto set my hand and Seal this 18th day of January Anno Domini, one Thousand Eight hundred and thirty eight Hiram NORTON Signed Sealed and Delivered in presence of Orlando WILDER Herman CONVERSE State of Vermont Addison County, Addison 18 January 1838 Personally appeared Hiram NORTON the signer and sealer of the above written instrument and acknowledged the same to be his free voluntary act and deed Before me, Herman CONVERSE Justice Peace Addison January 24th 7 oclock A.M.
