I inherited my bad teeth from my mother’s side of the family, the Burkes. My dad used to work 12 hours a day, 28 day’s a month. He would get every second Sunday off. He was the yardmaster for the railroad and there was one other yardmaster working the other 12 hour shift. He was involved in creating an association of yardmasters and they pushed for a 40 hour workweek. He was also the head of the DL&W Railroad Veterans Association. My dad had more leisure time after he switched to a 40 hour workweek and he would play handball. He always tried to stay fit. He would play in Bayside Park in Jersey near the Bayside Cemetery.
