I am still searching for any leads on our Samuel Smith Norton born ca. 1795 Ireland or NY. Family history says he came to the states just prior to the War of 1812, but his son, Samuel Smith Norton JR. stated in the 1880 census in Little Wolf, WI, that his father was born in NY and his mother, Zelpha Nichols was born in VT. I have no other information on the Sr. Norton. Samuel S. Norton Jr., was born May 1818 in Granville, Washington Co., NY, married Electa C. Steele Nov. 1841 in NY., he died March 1896 in Centralia, WI. He and Electa had 4 children; George W. born 1844, Susan M. born 1847, Celia A. born 1849 and Smith Samuel Norton born 1850, I believe all in Jefferson Co., NY. Samuel S. Sr. and Zelpha Norton had at least 2 other sons, William and Stephen Norton. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Virginia Stevens at delnginnys@netzero.net
