NORTON 1842 Updated April 25, 2003 REMARKS: Some data from “Brian’s Many Ancestors” in Ancestry.com Henry Norton is listed in records of Zion Lutheran Church in Harrisburg as being born 1 February 1797 and baptized 23 June 1797 by Reverend Henrich Moller. Henry and Julianna Moeller were witnesses to the baptism. The Norton family played a large part in Logan county Kentucky history. William Norton, who was the brother of Henry, was born 2 September 1781 in Harrisburg Pennsylvania. He came to Kentucky in 1806, settling near Lexington, in 1810 he moved on west to settle in Logan County. The Norton family was a family of financiers. When William came to Logan county he began the manufacture of nails becoming extremely successful. The author of the book The Story of Logan County assumed that William and Henry Norton came from Quaker parentage. The fact of the matter is that John Norton and Susanna had strong ties to the Lutheran Church. It appears that all of their children were baptized in the church. After moving to Kentucky they were identified with Southern Baptist. It was in 1824 that Henry Norton while living in Logan county Kentucky decided to sell some land. The Deed Book of Logan county Kentucky, in which the transaction is recorded, indicates the John Norton the father of Henry Norton was deceased and buried in Harrisburg, Dauphin county, Pennsylvania. ========================================= (Fred’s ancestor) NAME GEORGE JOSHUA NORTON BORN FEBRUARY 19, 1832 or 1834 BIRTHPLACE TENNESSEE DIED DECEMBER 22, 1876 PLACE OF DEATH SEARCY, ARKANSAS FATHER HENRY NORTON MOTHER (MAIDEN NAME) MOURNING WHEELER WIFE MARY ELIZABETH AMANDA BRANCH MARRIAGE DATE NOVEMBER 12, 1857 PLACE OF MARRIAGE MADISON COUNTY, TENNESSEE CHILDREN * WILLIAM HENRY NORTON UNKNOWN Updated MARCH 10, 2003 REMARKS: His age is shown as 16 in the 1850 census.
