Henry Senior was the son of Thomas Norton and Alice Cranmer and was also a brother of Walter Norton, who was a founder of York. ME. Henry the younger went to York to look after the interests of his late uncle. MAINE GENEALOGY, p514 : "Henry, gentleman, bp. 26 Nov 1618,s.of Henry and Sarah(Lawson) of Stepney,co Middlesex and nephew of Walter, came to York after his uncle's death to look after the family interest...... Here's background on Walter: Walter Norton, son of Thomas Norton and Alice Cranmer, was born about 1580, probably in London. He was a professional soldier of long experience in the low countries (Netherlands), was taken prisoner in the battle of Rhe in 1625, in which his son was killed. Subsequently he is found as an immigrant to New England, and was a resident of Charlestown, Massachusetts in 1630. He was a purchaser with other of his relatives of land on the Agamenticus river in Maine, and in 1632 was at York. His intent was evidently to develop this property. In 1633, while journeying to Virginia with Captin John Stone, Lt Col Walter Norton was murdered by the Pequots when their ship entered the Connecticut river to trade. The name of his son is not reported: he was evidently by his first wife Jane (Reeve) Reynolds. By his second wife Eleanor he had a child.Jane married 1, Henry Simpson;2,Nicholas Bond."
