I have an Alexander Norton born abt 1845 in New York, died 1894 in Omaha, Nebraska. He was married to Alice Bartlett. She was born 1853 in Ohio, and died 1932 in Purple Cane, Nebraska. They had four children, George (b. 1879 - my husband's great grandfather), Chauncey (b. 1877), Joseph (b. 1878), and Mary (b. 1883). I have nothing on the descendants of the children other than George's, and thought the Bartlett may tie back to Alice Bartlett.
I've been trying for years to find out what happened to my William Norton in Tompkins County, NY. My grandmother thought his name was Henry, so maybe that was a middle name or he might have gone by that. I've tried to get a service record from him and got the wrong one. There was another William Norton there at the same time. This William married Lydia Swansbrough, and had two children, Henrietta and Mary. He was in the 1860 Census, but not the 1870 one. I think he may be the son of Leonard Norton. Lydia is the daughter of William and Mary Ann Swansbrough. If this sounds familiar to anyone, please let me know. Thanks.
