I don't have anyone by that name in my data. I am also looking for a Varnel Norton, born c 1840. He may have been in the 17 Consolidated Texas Dismounted Cavalry, Co. K. I have heard that those men came from Smith, Nagadoces, Red River, and Cherokee Cos., TX. I have not found him in the census for 1860 nor after that in any location, so I cannot verify that this is the Varnel that I am looking for. Varnel's father, Cornelius, was in Campbell Co., GA in 1840 and 1850. After that, he disappeared from the census and other records. Also his wife, and maybe one daughter besides Varnel. Anoter son of Cornelius, also named Cornelius, is said to have gone to TX. I think that I found him in Wood Co., TX in 1900. Two grandsons went to TX, Charles Chesterfield Norton and William Obediah Norton. In 1900 Charles Chesterfield Norton was located in Camp Co., TX with his family. In 1900, 1910, and 1920, William Obediah Norton was located in Wood Co., TX. Good Luck. If you find that you are related to one of these, let me know. Mona
