Hello Debra -- There were at least two branches of the Norton clan that moved from CT to NY to OH and points west. I have been working with a cousin on our common [Bardes] ancestry, and she asked for help with one of her maternal lines. I started chasing Aaron Nortons, and that's what got me into the Norton family. Talk about confusing! Please don't confuse what I am about to write with fact. I think that most of the pieces are in place, in spite of the fact that much of the information came from the Ancestral File and International Genealogical Index, via the Familysearch.com web site. I will assume that your Lewis Norton is the Lewis W. Norton, who showed up in one of my Norton families. I have no birth date or other vital statistics for him, except that his parents were Ebenezer and Elizabeth (Baldwin) Norton. They lived in Goshen, Litchfield, CT. BTW, I have names of presumed ancestors, going back to immigrants. Lewis W. Norton had a brother (Aaron) and a sister (Elizabeth) who moved to East Bloomfield, Ontario, NY. Elizabeth married John Doud. Aaron's son (Aaron, Jr) moved to Hudson, Summit, OH. The siblings of Aaron Jr. apparently stayed in Ontario County, NY, but I don't know how many generations. As this was not the Aaron Norton we wanted, my interested in this Norton line waned. I saw a message from another lister, suggesting the possibility of a Lewis Mills Norton as part of your missing lineage. His mother was Charity Mills. Information in the Ancestral File indicates that his kids were born in Goshen, CT as late as 1824. Yes, his wife was Laura Foot(e), and Laura's mother was also a Mills. Could Lewis and Laura have been cousins? My suggestion is that you should try to match up dates and places. Matching up dates and places doesn't guarantee that you have the right people, but failing to match up dates and places is fairly strong evidence in the other direction. I hope this helps.
