DC. ae. 1yr, 2m, 6days d. Sept 17, 18__ ~~~~~~~~~~~ I don't know anything about any of these Norton, they are copied out of a book at the library.

I have the book on Pennsylvania Marriages Prior to 1810 for the First Presbyterian Church, if anyone would like to have a surname checked. Also, have the book, "Names of Foreigners Who Took the Oath To The Province of Pennsylvania 1727-1775. This includes names of the ships that some immigrants came over on. My 3x gt-grandfather, Joseph NORTON, chr 4 Nov 1764, Cauldwell, Derbyshire England was son of Joseph NORTON m Mary CAPEWELL, 14 Oct 1756, Stapenhill, Derbyshire. [Cauldwell was a Chapelry of Stapenhill Parish.] Joseph (jnr) married Ann BAXTER in Stapenhill, 9 May 1786. Does anybody out there have any connection to this family? His parents were almost certainly Robert Norton and Anne Hare. His Grandfather was Thomas Norton, M.P., also known as the "Rackmaster General of London". William was, if I recall correctly, Robert's second cousin. Dionis Cholmeley was a real blueblood and subsequent generations found it pereferable to "mistake" their son, Thomas, who never came to America, with Robert's son, who did. No one wanted to be descended from Thomas, who was somewhat of a monster. There's considerable evidence for this. One good point is that in William's 1622 will he refers to Mary, a daughter of Thomas. The Mary who was Thomas the Emigrant's daughter wasn't born until 8 years after William's death in 1622. Both families lived in Sharpenhoe.

We have nothing prior to that on either side. The birthdates and places are from later census information. NORTONS and CURTIS seem be in close proximity on census sheets in Indiana and later in Ohio from 1830 to 1860. Would like to pursue this posible connection with you.
