He appears in the 1910 Census for Colchester, New London, Connecticut as head of household. Occupation is listed as farmer, age 70. Also residing in home is daughter, Jennie (age 40), brother-in-law, William Cronin (age 88), grandson John Boyle (age 14) and Eugene Purcell (boarder, age 33). Census states he was born in Ireland and immigrated to USA in 1850. If anyone has any information on this family I would greatly appreciate assistance. I have hit a dead end with this line. THANKS!

Leininger, of Los Angeles; and concerning his son, Richard Henry Norton, Jr. (1873-1953), a San Francisco area publisher of nine neighborhood newspapers and a printing company president, and concerning R. H. Norton, Jr.'s siblings. Norton, Sr., was born in Salford, near Manchester, England, on May 5, 1851. He died in Los Angeles, California, on January 25, 1921. He was a mining engineer by profession, working in Minnesota (1881-88), British Columbia (1888-89),and the Portland, OR, area (1896-97). From 1900 until 1921, he was politically active in the Los Angeles, CA, area, graduated from USC Law School in 1911 at the age of 60, and served as a Los Angeles County Supervisor from 1912 to 1917. Norton, Jr., was born on January 5, 1873 in England. He founded his first newspaper in San Francisco ca. 1915 and also served as president of Norton Printing Company until the early 1940s. He died in Southern California in 1953. Both Norton, Jr., and his father are believed to have had relatives who may have settled in Canada and the Tacoma and Seattle, WA, area. Any information or suggestions for further research would be most gratefully received.

What I know is that they came from England in prob. late 1700's/early 1800's, then settled along the Delaware River in Southern New Jersey (Bridgeport/ "Nortonville" area). Benjamin and his son John were both Methodist ministers, founded a church there in 1800's. John had son Joseph Kay, who had 21 children from 4 marriages. My GM was one of those children.     2. I am seeking information on Ephraim, or sometimes used Edward, NORTON. He was born ca 1818 in Tennessee, married Mary ESTEP, born ca 1817 Virginia. I believe they started migrating and it is the family on the 1840 Jackson County, Alabama census. By 1850 the family is living in Madison County, Arkansas; by 1860 in Carroll County, Arkansas and they were in Christian County, Missouri listed on the 1870 census, where the family stayed and raised their children.     3. Two NORTON families arrives in SW Franklin County Ohio the 1830-1840 era. William Norton b. PA ca 1805 and wife, Jane Mitchner b. PA came and settled in SW Franklin Co. They died in the 1860 era and were buried at the Little PA cemetery located near Big Darby Creek (Rt 665). A 3rd cousin of Wm Norton, named John Norton arrived near the same time. John was from NY, MA. or CT. He is buried at West Jefferson, OH Am seeking any information regarding either one or both of these NORTON families. William is my g g grandfather.
