    2. Patricia Steffen
    3. Hi, everybody. I'm new to this mailing list. I'm researching Lydia Norton of Mercer Co., NJ.: 11/12/1861 - 9/2/1932. Lydia was my great-grandmother. Husband: Lyman Forst Hill, Sr.: 11/12/1863 - 3/7/1932 Children: Bertha Louise Hill: 1/6/1884 - 6/1933 Irving Kelly Hill: 7/27/1886 - 1/6/1888 Lyman Forst Hill, Jr.: 10/31/1888 - 11/1965 Lida May Hill: 11/30/1890 - prob. before 1940 Bessie Genevieve Hill (Embley): 1/27/1893 - prob. before 1950 Anna Virginia Hill (Holcombe, Shephard): 3/7/1895 - 7/29/1976 George Norton Hill: 2/27/1899-9/1981 My greatuncle George Norton Hill supplied what little I know about Lydia Norton shortly before his death. Lydia's husband Lyman and some of the children who were working but still living at home were listed in the 1920 Trenton City Directory, but there's no mention of Lydia (only widows and working women appear to be listed). I also have in my possession Lydia's autograph book which appears to date from the 1880's and has some references to Flemington, Hunterdon Co., NJ., so she may have had a Hunterdon County connection - born there maybe? I have been trying to locate Lydia with no success so I'm interested in hearing from anyone who may have some information to share. Thanks! 1. [NORTON] Jeremiah Norton and Abigail Norton (get ready for a headache!)
    2. I have two NORTON lines that combine (actually three ) Jeremiah Norton b 1771 Whitehall NY -1842 Ky son of 1. Aaron NORTON and 2. Abigail Norton. Jeremiah married 3) Abigail Norton b 1777 - 1845 Ky. I think I have been able to follow Jeremiahs' line back to England ok but I have some questions about Abigails. I have seen sources that say her dad was William Norton ( I can find nothing back further than William) and her mom was Dorcas Norton, daughter of Prince Norton and Love Norton. If I can decipher all of this information, Prince is from Jeremiah's Norton line. Prince would be Jeremiah's paternal grandfather's brother, making Prince the son of Nicholas Norton and Martha Daggett. I have charted Love Norton as the daughter of Bayes Norton and Mary Merry. this also can get confusing as Bayes would be also in Jeremiah's line as Jeremiahs' MATERNAL grandfather's brother. (Bayes and Isaac being brothers. They are sons of Joseph NORTON and (?) HARROLD.) However some sources say Dorcas died as a child so she couldn't be wife to Wm and mother to Abigail. So my question is: Does any of this look correct to anyone else? If any of it is incorrect, can someone help me get it on track? I have put it on a nice big posterboard to see it better and think I have it charted right but I would just like to verify the Prince/Love connection and make sure about Wm and Dorcas being parents of Abigail. (Not to be confused with Jeremiah's MOTHER, also named Abigail Norton d/o Isaac Norton and Hannah (?) !) any help, guidance, fill in the gaps, anything....is certainly appreciated. Most of what I have is from Bank's Book of Martha's Vineyard and some genealogy sites. Pam

    1. [NORTON] Christopher Norton--18th c. engraver, England and Scotland
    2. ROSS COOPER
    3. I am seeking the ancestry of my ggg grandfather, Christopher Norton, who reportedly came from either Staffordshire or Berkshire in England, resided for a while in Rome, and was a book engraver.Late in life he married Janet Moir in Peterhead, Scotland, in 1792, and the couple had three children. Christopher died in Tonley, Scotland, in 1799. His brother Thomas worked in London as a haberdasher, one sister Dorothea married Gilbert Pudner in London in 1760, and another sister [name unknown] married a Mainwaring and lived at least for a while in Worcestershire. Their mother's first name was Dorothea, and she died in Bath, Somerset, in 1782. Their father's first name was probably Christopher or Richard. Ross Cooper.

Forwarded Message -----Original Message----- From: WSaponaro@aol.com [mailto:WSaponaro@aol.com] Sent: Thursday, May 16, 2002 3:08 PM To: NORTON-D-request@rootsweb.com Subject: land deed-dated 1723 Dear member of Norton family; I have an original written deed, dated Jult 1723, for a tract of land in Edgartown conveyed from Joseph Norton "to my well beloved son Joseph Norton" "being a neck of land" and other detail. It appears to be witnessed by Enoch Coffin and Sam? Butler. I also have an original "pay roster" listing the names of Coffin, Norton etc. with amounts beside their names. " it being in full for wages due to us for service done in the colony from the time of our going upon pay till the last day of February 1776." We acquired these from an antiques dealer (now deceased) many years ago. If this is of interest/help, please contact me. I found your website on the computer researching Marthas Vineyard. wsaponaro@aol.com

Norton the daughter of Harmon J. Norton who was the son of Locklin Norton of Elba, Genesee county New York. I think repeat think that Locklin was the son of Henry Norton . He also had a brother Rodrick or Roderick Norton. They were shown in both the 1830 and 1850 census. Roderick was missed in the print out of the 1850 census, but he is on the same page as Locklin. Do any of these names ring a bell with anyone. Locklin was born in Vermont c. 1803 or 1793. It's hard to tell the age on the census. Have a look and see what you think.
