I think there is a mention of him in the Washington Co web page Re: his pension and perhaps in the DAR pages. He retired to Maine after the revolution. Barbara

Virginia, I wish I could help you directly, but no such luck. My Nortons were in Guilford CT at least 150 years before your Samuel was born in Granville NY. Have you tried the Granville NY library? I've never been there, but have been told that they do have a family history collection. Good luck. Marty

MARTY - I have a Samuel Smith Norton b. May 1818 Granville, NY, married Electa Steele Nov. 1841, he d. Mar. 1896 in Centralia, WI. His father was Samuel Smith Norton, supposedly from Ireland? came here just prior to the War of 1812. He married Zelpha Nichols. I have been unable to find anything on them. Their daughter Celia or Sealy married William "Bill" Jackson, her mother Mary Waldrop Norton sold the land where the Norton Family Cemetery is in Fayette County Georgia, The deed was made to Seley Jackson, Deed Book K pages 184&185, in March 5. 1880. Seley Jackson sold it to George W. Clark, Jan. 9, 1886. Bill and Seley Jackson moved to Louisiana with their two children, Dave and Mollie.

I have an Alexander Norton born abt 1845 in New York, died 1894 in Omaha, Nebraska. He was married to Alice Bartlett. She was born 1853 in Ohio, and died 1932 in Purple Cane, Nebraska. They had four children, George (b. 1879 - my husband's great grandfather), Chauncey (b. 1877), Joseph (b. 1878), and Mary (b. 1883). I have nothing on the descendants of the children other than George's, and thought the Bartlett may tie back to Alice Bartlett.
