Your dad's five younger siblings (Nancy, Judy, Twain, Tim and Chris) were adopted by their maternal grandmother Mabel May Sasser and her second husband, William Norton. All but my mother took the Norton name. Of those five siblings, four are still living. One, Twain, who looks the closest to your Dad, has 13 children and six grandchildren. I met your 1/2 brothers Forrest and Jason last year. I'm so excited.

    2. In response to a query about Georgianna Norton who married Charles Harrison Smith: Probable parents of Georgianna are Russell and Susan (Unknown) Norton. 1850 Census Mt Vernon Me Georgianna age 1yr, 1860 Census age 11yrs in Readfield, ME. (1850 Census she was called Georgett D. Norton) Russell was b April 19, 1819, in Readfield, d May 16, 1895, Fayette, Me (See Maine State Archives Death record). Russell was the son of Stephen and Relief (Gordon) Norton. Stephen b Oct 25 1791 in Readfield, d Jan 17 1870 Mt Vernon, ME. Buried at Steven's Cemetery in Mt Vernon with his wife Relief who was b 1792 d Sept 14 1854. Information on Russell's parents came from his death record. Russell's wife Susan Unknown was b in Mt Vernon, which was on son James R. Norton marriage certificate. It was hard to read, but I believe her maiden name may have been Starbird. Have been unable to go back any further on who Stephen Norton parents were. Please forward any additional information on Georgianna and her spouse with sources. Surnames: Norton McCabe Verdeckberg McGinty Onstine Kiser Kaiser Classification: Query Message Board URL: http://boards.ancestry.com/mbexec/msg/rw/Qi3.2ACIB/1723.1 Message Board Post: I am looking for information on a William Norton who was living in 1950 (possibly born 1906 and died 1979? per SSDI, social security applied for in Ohio, died in Colorado). He is listed in the 30 Oct 1950 obituary for his Aunt Margaret McCabe (died in San Francisco) as a native of Colorado. The McCabe family (Patrick and Jane McGinty McCabe) moved to the Jefferson County/Arapahoe/Denver area in 1876 or so. They definitely had two other daughters, Sarah b. 1872 nad Kate b. 1875 (both born Iowa). Kate married Ed Verdeckberg and then Leo Eugene Onstine. Believe Sarah married Samuel B. Kiser (Kaiser?). She may have married after that. There possibly was a fourth daughter Maria McCabe as there is a probate record for 1907 and we have copies of the sale of a horse in 1906 where Jane McCabe was executor. Margaret enlisted as a nurse in the army in 1917 and we don't have a record of Jane in California until 1920 so there may be another daughter or family that remained in Co! lorado. I see your William Norton was in Colorado so thought there may be a connection.

Classification: Query Message Board URL: http://boards.ancestry.com/mbexec/msg/an/Qi3.2ACIB/21.1269.1439 Message Board Post: This is a message I just posted. After that I found your answer to my 1999 inquiry. My great-grandfather George Joshua Norton had a son, William Henry Norton, born in Mt. Pinson or Pinson, Tennessee, Madison County. Where was your George Norton born? Fred Norton When I was growing up, I thought Norton was a rare and unique name. Boy, was I wrong. They are some of the most prolific I have tried to research. Anyway, I am Fredrick (Fred) Donald Norton, born in Los Amgeles, California in 1931. I am the only Californian in my parents family. My brother, Edgar Dale Norton b. 1915, and my two oldest sisters, Lorene Ella Norton (Kelley) b. 1917, and Irene Velma Norton (Cromwell & Wright) b. 1919 were born in New Mexico. My youngest sister, Ruth Louise Norton (Smith) b. 1921 in Oklahoma. My father was Chester Dale Norton, born in 1894 in Portland, Oregon, and raised in Oklahoma. Died in California My grandfather was William Henry Norton, Born in Tennessee in 1859 and raised in Arkansas. Died in California My great-grandfather was George Joshua Norton, born in 1832 or 1834 in Tennessee. Died in Arkansas. The 1850 Tennessee census for Maison County gives my great-great-grandmothers name as Morning Norton, apparently a widow, born in 1807 in Virginia. I think her husband, my great-great grandfather may have been Henry Norton form Virginia, and may have been born just before 1800. My father's brother was Roy Norton, Who was born in Arkansas, and lived most of his life in the Klamath Falls, Oregon area. It's very difficult to go back further or make the England connection. My father always said the Nortons came over early to Virginia, maybe in the 1600s. If any one has a connection to any of these, I would appreciate them contacting me. 3. Dear Listers, I am searching for the Norton family that settled in the Sacramento Area circa late 1800's. My great Aunt Margaret Daly Norton, married to Tommy Norton lived there and I am afraid that I do not know too much more about her. I know they lived at 2519 H. Street in Sacramento and other names that I have found in connection with the Norton's are Agnes Norton or Mrs. D. F. Sullivan who lived in Woodland, California. Agnes is the niece of my Great Uncle Michael Daly, brother of Margaret, from New Jersey and this may mean she is the daughter of Margaret and Tommy or Thomas. In fact when my grandfather and great uncle came to this country they came through California and their citizenship papers were signed by the Norton's. I have a lot of Daly info but want to tie into the Norton's if possible. Margaret's parents were Patrick and Catherine(O'Hara) Daly and I have the names of all her siblings and ancestors if anyone wants to know them. Any help would be so welcome. Thanks, Lois Daly Brown
