I have a John NORTON born 1786 who married Zeruiah CHADWICK in Civil, Vassalboro, Kennebec, Maine on 21 January 1810. John NORTON had a brother Zachariah who settled in Indiana with him. He died there. They moved there with a BUTTERFIELD and other families. In the 1850 census of Town 5S 2 W, Pike County, Illinois, they list their birthplaces as Maine. I know Zeruiah (sometimes referred to as Sophia in early records and Zerniah) had parents who were born in Massachusets. Before John and Zeruiah NORTON moved to Illinois, they first settled in Ohio. They were supposed to have left for Ohio shortly after their marriage. I haven't seen what part yet. They were in Steuben Twp, Warren County, Indiana by 1827. Sometime befotre 1850 they moved to Illinois. They had a total of 13 children. I know they had John Jr born 10 November 1814, Ebenezer M born 7 March 1822, Priscilla about 1817, Julia Anna about 1830, Albert about 1834, Louisa about 1834, possibly the Ichabod C. born 17 August 1810, and the rest unknown. Am researching Norton's originating from England. Our great-grandfather Thomas Norton (abt.1860-1922) married Elizabeth Turner. Thomas & Elizabeth Norton lived in England and had 5 children: Fred W. (our line), Nellie S., Reginald, Thomas Jr. (died in WWI), and infant child. Am interested in finding names of THomas' siblings/parents. Thanks! Sharon Norton

Seems there's a bunch of us looking in Alabama. Has anyone done a history of the state where it breaks out the counties, when they changed boundaries, what the parent counties were, which county split off of which, etc? I'm not having any luck finding my Nortons on the census, but it occurred to me that I'm looking in the wrong county since the boundaries may have changed and I'm looking in the area that the county is called now! Duhhh. Juanita send me the name of a book that I can get, but just thought perhaps one of you may have already done that and would like to share. Susan
