I would like to receive more information on both Sampson Jr. and any you have on Edley Jr. with any thought where they may be in Texas. Edley Sr. is also my Gr.Gr. Grandfather through his daughter, Margaret Jane born in about 1847 in MO.. We need additional research and/or comparison of information to better establish Sampson Norton with two birthdates even though I have land records in Benton, Co.Mo. and other records in Sebastian Co. ARK. I have found a Sampson Nortin in the 1810 census in S.C. It appears that he had just gotten married as there were no children listed. He was also located near a William Norton. I am interested in comparing notes. I look forward to hearing from you. My e-mail address is larrynadine@attbi.com Nadine

She and I have been trying to figure out how Miles F ties into this line. Sampson who married Ann Henderson is listed as a son of William Norton and Jemima Pickerel. Her cousin feels that instead of being a son he may be a grandson through the oldes son Henry. The main reason is DOB which is given as ABT 1778 or ABT 1792 deppending on where you look. Any help we can get in solving this mystery will be appreciated. If you don't hear from Nadine shortly drop me a note and I'll send you what I have most of which I got from her since this is not my line. My line is through William's son Gideon. Barry

You stated that Edley Norton, Jr. and Sampson Lemuel disappeared in Kansas in 1868. Actually they didn't make it all the way to Kansas but returned to the same county in AR that they had left. Sampson married in Scott Co. AR in 1870 . I am descended from him. I believe that Edley Jr and other family members went to Texas. Edley, Sr. was my Gr. Gr. grandfather. I haven't established a connection to William of S.C. yet even though our Sampson was listed on census records as being born in S.C. I do hope it is the right one though. If you would like to compare notes you can e-mail me.

    1. [NORTON] Norton's of Martha's Vineyard
    2. Hi, I'm reading a book I bought on the Vineyard a while ago. It gives several references to the Norton, Butler, Newcomb & Bayes families, which is why I bought it. However, in some cases I'm having trouble identifying the person it speaks of. Thought maybe someone could help. It speaks of Major Peter Norton, who had a son Andrew. Andrew was captured by the British and taken to NY where he was placed on the prison ship Jersey. He was held for ransom, 500 pounds in gold. Peter obtained the ransom money & the family was giving thanks when a horseman arrived with the news that Andrew was shot while running the bowsprit. The Peter's I have both died before Revolutionary times and the third was too young. Does anyone know who this was? This Peter also had a son Ichabod. They lived in Oak Bluffs, in Farm Neck. Ichabod was born Dec 17, 1761. The Peter born in 1740 would be a possiblity, except I have his death as 1759. Also, there was a Richard who died at Dartmoor prison in Devonshire, England, during the was of 1812. No info on his parents. There is also mention of a Colonel Beriah Norton. Any help would be appreciated.
