Yes, there are several of us trying to tie this line down. This is not my direct line but, if it is proven, it would tie back into Sampson Norton a brother of my 3rd ggrandfather, Gideon Norton. Both of them are sons of William Norton and Jemima Pickerel. As you can see there is quite a bit of confusion about Sampson and there very well could be more than one. Feel free to send me any information you can come up with directly and eventually we may be able to resolve this confusion. I will be more than happy to send you what we have on the rest of the Norton clan. Barry

Classification: Query Message Board URL: http://boards.ancestry.com/mbexec/msg/an/Qi3.2ACIB/95.173.1.1 Message Board Post: I have the following information regarding Experience Cross, mother of Aaron Norton. She was born July 31, 1813 in Enosburg, Franklin, Vermont. She died October 6, 1872 in Greenbush Township, Clinton County, Michigan. She is buried in Duplain Cemetery, Clinton County, Michigan. She married Joseph Norton and they had one son, Aaron, born in Enosburg in 1836. After Joseph died, Experience married a Lyman Ordiway. He was born in New York. They had three children, Joseph, Charles and Jane. Lyman was a farmer and they lived in Gratiot County, Michigan. My early information on Experience is incomplete. I have heard that her father (unconfirmed ) was Christopher Cross. I would be happy for any information verifying this data and would be happy to swap information.

Classification: Query Message Board URL: http://boards.ancestry.com/mbexec/msg/rw/Qi3.2ACIB/1804.1.3 Message Board Post: I've been following your postings about Miles Franklin NORTON with interest. I have no proof yet, but believe he was my GGGgrandfather through his son Prior Dolphus (b. 1855-1856 in AR.) I have an 1880 census for Cooke Co, TX, Gainesville, (prec.#3, family #371....which is on page 45 on ancestry.com) showing Miles Norton, wife Catherine (his 2nd wife), and border James Baker. A few lines further down are John Norton, wife Weana (sp?) and son Brinkley. The next line is my GGF listed as Dolphus Norton and his wife Mary Jane (who later moved to Carter Co., OK). Miles is also listed for Cooke Co on the 1870 census, for Sebastian Co., AR, in 1860, and Benton Co, MO in 1850. There seems to be several of us searching for this branch of the Nortons. I don't have proven documentation past Prior Dolphus so any suggestions or information would be greatly appreciated. If anyone is looking for my particular group I do have a copy of Prior's marriage certificate, lists of census, descendents, etc.. Judy

    1. [NORTON] Re: JAMES, SAMUEL & JULIA NORTON also Catherine
    2. Hello, DocJuke, I am interested in your NORTONS. However, where were they located? I have NORTONS in two generations in South Carolina and Alabama and perhaps further north as well from the early 1800's. The names are JAMES NORTON, SAMUEL EDWIN NORTON (who married JULIA ALSTON and named a daughter after her) they also had a son named JAMES HUDSON NORTON. There was a sister of SAMUEL named Katherine/Catherine. I don't recognize any of your names right away, but it did seem to be something of a coincidence. Do let me know where and when yours were located and I will be more specific with mine.
