My gg grandfather was Northup E. Weaver born abt 1825 in Ohio or Kentucky. I have been unable to determine his parents. Only information is through US census records that list his father as born in Pennsylvania. Northup as a given name is not very common but with past naming practices it was not unlikely that a son would be named after a maternal grandparent. I'm guessing that may tie to the Northup surname.
