Some of the records indicate Stephen Northup may have been born in Norh Hope Falinshire Wales in 1610. There is a Hope, Flintshire just South of Northop, Flintshire, in Northern Wales. The theory is this: The Name Northop may have derived from North Hope and not from North Thorpe, as many have presumed.
