I can't tell you anything about Ellery, either. There is a John H. Northrup and a John H. Northup. Both are listed as having married Mary Cady on different dates in 1843. There is a John Northup son of John and Mary Northup, born in 1825. That would be close to the right time, but I have nothing to give you on that John and Mary Northup, either. I found nothing on Family Search and Nothing on Ancestry.com. I have Rhode Island Records on CD, but haven't been able to access it for some reason lately. You might try that. I'm pretty sure you will find him in Civil, Providence, R.I.

You advised that you have additional info on this part of the family. I have responded directly to you, using your E Mail address. If you are not getting my E Mails, please advise and we will work out another method of communication. I am very excited to see the info you have on this part of my family. Thanks much. Mark

And Lionel Kearney Northup (b. September 14, 1896) was the son of Charles Edward and Anna Northup. Is that consistent with your information? Judd Northrup's source data; so the Stephen Northrop ala Stephen Northrup and Abigail Perry is somewhat of a mystery. The lineage for Stephen Northup, Jr. per Stephen and Sarah (Roberts) Northup is generally the accepted connection. The Northrup/Northrop/Northup lines have crossed a number of times over the centiuries. Best regards, Clyde :-)

Thanks for the info, I always thought that Emma was the dau. of John Northup & Mary Lawton, just have to prove it. I have the census records for Emma & James, they spelled his name Bronson. I hadn't heard about the Northup/Cady marriage. Thanks again Dianne
Are they any connections to a gr. gr. grandmother of mine, Annie Northrup? Annie had 4 children by her 1st marriage and 4 children by Edward Jarvis Eldred. Mary Ann Northrup was the mother of the Hon. Charles Dodson Eldred. Nathan Northrup (or Northrop) emigrated from Connecticut to the Wyoming Valley in 1792 and on to Monroe Township soon after. Old Mrs. Nathan Northrup lived to be one hundred and five years old and married the second time at the age of ninety-eight, when she is said to have astonished the wedding guests by dancing an old-fashion stip like a girl. Edward Jarvis Eldred's third wife, Annie Northrup survived him three or four years and died at a daughter's, Mrs. Martha Tuttle, in Oakland County, Michigan. Her maiden name was Northrup, and her parents were natives of Connecticut. She was first married to John Ross, of Luzerne County, PA, who died leaving her a widow with four children. Mrs. Ann Eldred, mother of the editor of the "Lycoming Gazette" , died at Walled Lake, Oakland Co., Michigan, aged 65

There may have been at least two Stephens born this year. I have one born of Stephen and Sarah Roberts in N. Kingston, R.I. This family apparently moved to Connecticut, where it may have rubbed elbows with the Milford, Ct. Northrups. I also have a source that says this Stephen was the son of Stephen Northrup and Abigail Perry in Ridgefield, Ct. Help, Please?? Thanks, Rick Northup

Some of the records indicate Stephen Northup may have been born in Norh Hope Falinshire Wales in 1610. There is a Hope, Flintshire just South of Northop, Flintshire, in Northern Wales. The theory is this: The Name Northop may have derived from North Hope and not from North Thorpe, as many have presumed.

You might try that one. I didn't search the Newport County records and I didn't find any of my John and Marys with a daughter Emma. There were a couple about 1850. John H. Northup married Mary Cady 19 Nov 1843 in Civil, Providence, Providence, Rhode Island. That looks most likely. Then John N. Northup married Mary A. LAWTON Abt. 1847 in Rhode Island. I guess that's the best I can do for you. Rick Northup
