There was an "Ellery B. Northup" (age 19 years) listed in the 1850 census (Roll: M432_844, Page: 176, Family # 529; August 08, 1850) for Ward 3, Providence, Providence Co., Rhode Island, who along with several other young men living in a boarding house, identified themselves as "Jewelers." Possible father??? Best regards, Clyde :-)

    2. This is a Message Board Post that is gatewayed to this mailing list. Classification: Query Message Board URL: http://boards.ancestry.com/mbexec/msg/an/oR3.2ACEB/226.1 Message Board Post: Hi Dianne, Good to hear from you. I checked all (there were quite a few) of the "Horatio N.'s" in the family records, but none had a "Christopher N." for their father. But there are several "lost sheep" Horace N.'s that are possible matches. Correspondingly, I checked the "Christopher N.'s", but none had a reported son, "Horatio," but some of the records were incomplete. Horatio is recorded in the census records (1850, 1860 & 1870) for Providence (5th & 6th Wards), Providence Co., Rhode Island. Susan E. Northup reportedly died on 16 Feb 1874 (age 45 years). Those records might give you some clues. Best regards, Clyde :-)

Classification: Query Message Board URL: http://boards.ancestry.com/mbexec/msg/an/oR3.2ACEB/224.1.2 Message Board Post: Clyde, Another interesting note is this (if I can get this straight): Remeber the missing George Northup, son of Christopher Northup. George was born about 1801, I believe. Now, Tibbetts and Joseph were brothers so George would have been Joseph's grandson. George married Julia Franklin Ellsworth. Julia's sister, Polly Ellsworth, married Joseph N. Hall, the son of Wanton F. Hall and Fannie Northup. If Tibbetts was Fannie's father then Fannie and Christopher would have been first cousins, and Fanny and George fist cousin's once removed. At any rate, George and Julia, Wanton and Fannie, and Joseph and Polly all moved to Fond du Lac Co., Wi. and lived on farms next door to each other there. When I went to Fond du Lac I looked for info on Fannie's parents and on Wanton's parents with no luck except to find Fannie's maiden name, which I did not know before. Judy

Classification: Query Message Board URL: http://boards.ancestry.com/mbexec/msg/an/oR3.2ACEB/224.1.1 Message Board Post: Hi Clyde, Thanks for replying. Actually there were 2 children born before 1790, a male and a female. The 1790 census shows 1 FWM 16+, 1 FWM <16, and 2 FWF...Tibbets, a boy, Betsy and a girl. The 1800 census shows Tibbetts with a boy 0-10, a boy 10-16, a male 26-45, a girl 0-10, a girl 10-16, and a female 26-45. I figure these translate to Gardner, a boy born before 1790, Tibbetts, a girl born between 1790 and 1800, Fanny and Betsy. In 1800 Joseph, John H. and Clark Northup all show children but no girls in the age group for Fanny. Tibbetts is the only Northup with a girl 10-16. So I think Tibbetts and Betsy are the parents. Plus it seems odd that they would not have any children before 1797 so the first ones must not be documented well or someone missed them. Judy

Classification: Query Message Board URL: http://boards.ancestry.com/mbexec/msg/an/oR3.2ACEB/224.1 Message Board Post: Hi Judith, Good to hear from you again. This census data is interesting. The family records show 4 children by Tibbets and Betsey (Gardner) Northup starting with Gardener (b. 1797). So he should have been identified in the 1800 census. Their "Sarah" (b. 1803) married (1) William McDonald and (2) Mr. Munson. She lived her life in Hartford, Washington Co., New York. Was the older child in the 1800 census and male or female? Based on the ages of the parents, there certainly could have been more children. Best regards, Clyde :-)

I did send for a copy of John H Northup/Northrup and Mary Slocum Cady's marriage, Nov. 19, 1843 Prov., RI, wouldn't you know that their parents were not listed. John was born in Pawtucket, (Mass) RI and Mary Slocum Cady was born in Providence, RI. I found a few more kids for John H. Northup & Mary S. Cady, by 1880 Mary was a widow. I did find John & Mary in the 1850 Prov., RI. I'll be glad when Ancestry.com finally gets around to finishing the indexes for the 1860 and 1870 census. I guess this John H. Northup and Mary Slocum Cady will be in my unconnected Northup files for now. I sent for a copy of their son John H. Northups death and marriage records. He was born Oct. 5, 1854 and died June 30, 1939. He married Ella Florina/Florence Brown Nov. 25, 1880 Prov., RI.. I have info on their children. I also sent off to the RI Archives for Ellery's birth cerificate, I'm curious about him, love to be able to connect him. What CD do you have for the RI Vital Records, is it #215, that's the one I have but it really doesn't cover too much of the northern towns of RI. Thanks again Dianne
