I can go only so far back to my great, great, great grandfather Perry Gate Northup b.in Hamburgh, NJ 1832, Perry married Mariam 'Vi" Kinne in 1859. Mariam was b N.Y. in 1842. Mariam had a younger sister born in Avon, Wis in 1854 so she must have met Perry in Wisconsin. All their children were born in Ellsworth, Wis.I have no idea how long the Northup's were in Wis. I only know that my Granfather, Perry' Grandson, moved to Minnesota sometime in 1930 or 40s.

I am particularly interested in the descendants of their daughter Mary Lillibridge Hull, wife of Stephen P. Hull. I think they moved from Blakely to Scranton and had 7 children...Harry, Florence, William, Ralph, Louise B., Blanche R., and John Donald, all born between 1866 and 1880. Think Blanche R. Hull may have been the last to die in 1954, but I am most interested on bio of Harry, the firstborn.

Classification: Query Message Board URL: http://boards.ancestry.com/mbexec/msg/an/oR3.2ACEB/230.1 Message Board Post: I do not have a daughter named Margaret listed for Zebulon and Mary (Cole) Northup but given that they had their children in North Kingstown, that may only mean that the records are lost. Where did you find Margaret as the daughter of Zebulon and Mary Cole? Zebulon was the son of David Northup and Margaret Watson. David Northup was the son of David and Susannah (Congdon) Northup. David was the son of Stephen Northup and Elizabeth Harrington. Mary Cole was the daughter of Benjamin Cole and Squcie Fones. Benjamin was the son of William Cole and Anne Pindar. William Cole was the son of John Cole and Susannah Hutchinson, daughter of Anne Marbury Hutchinson and her husband William. Squcie Fones was the daughter of Jeremiah and Martha (West) Fones. Martha's parents were Francis West and Susanna Soule. Susanna was the daughter of Mayflower passenger George Soule and his wife, Mary Bucket. Margaret Watson who married David Northup was the d/o John Watson and Abigail Northup. I can give you more info - dates, references, etc if you want to e-mail me ([email protected]) I share many of these lines with you.

    1. Northup or Northrup of Cheshire & Lanesboro
    2. This is a Message Board Post that is gatewayed to this mailing list. Classification: Query Message Board URL: http://boards.ancestry.com/mbexec/msg/rw/oR3.2ACEB/229 Message Board Post: There has been some debate on the origin of Stephen Northup of Cheshire, Mass. Does he belong to the Connecticut family, the subject of Anson Judd's book, or does he belong to the Rhode Island Northups? An early Berkshire County deed describes Northup as "of Danbury, Conn". However, I have a copy of a letter found in the Civil War pension file of Henry Hall Northup, the great grandson of Stephen, in which he states, "I have always written the name without the second r... In colonial times, the family of Northup setled in Rhode Island and a family of the name of Northrup settled in Connecticut. The Connecticut family became the more numerous, and the name is usually spelled as by them written". In my opinion, it is quite clear from Henry's letter that the Cheshire Northups belong to the Rhode Island family The above was posted on genealogy.com by Rick Leab. Plus whoever has been to the Cheshire cemetary will see the name Northup subscribe on the stones. I also have a copy of Stephen's Will as well as his son and grand son and so on. I interpet the Name as being Northup. I hope this will settle the debate of the origins of Stephen Northup. I also have the same opinion as Rick that the Cheshire Northups belong to the Rhode Island family
