    2. Rick and Donna Northup
    3. Clyde and Dick; I presume Clyde is aware of the Thomas, son of Nicholas and Abbigail?? (Eldred) who went to England sometime after 1741 and returned with a second wife, Lady Needham (Note spelling) and two children, apparently born in England; Nicholas 1752 and Needham I 1754. Needham I fathered Needham II, who in turn fathered Needham III, who was the Father of Varnum Northup, who died in prison during the Civil War. Of course, the interesting thing for this conversation, is the son, Nicholas, on whom I have no information, except that he married Lydia Palmer. Coincidence?? It could readily explain the re-occurrence of the name Nicholas. I have no first name for this Lady Needham. I don't have the names of any of Nicholas siblings.Would appricate it if you would provide them. The Nicholas info I have was found on a handwritten page with Milo Camps signature. He states he was born Sept 22,1798 and that Sarah Northup Camp was born Dec 12,1806 which would place her age a 19 plus when she married on April 16,1826. > In the writings of Milo Camp he emphized that the name is Needum, not Needham! That is exactley how it was written. Apparently the name was spelled by with a HAM which according to Milo was not correct. I also found a picture of a Major Geo.A.Camp from Minneapolis, Minn in the family phot album. I have no information on the Needum or Camp families other than Lady Sarah Needum Married Nicholas Northup about 1754 at which time the immigrated and settled on Long Island. Would appreciate any info you might provide. > Look forward to hearing from you. > Dick > > > ==== NORTHUP Mailing List ==== > This NORTHUP list is currently available for adoption! > Interested in becoming the list manager? 2. Hi Richard, According to the family records, Nicholas Northup was born (b. 1797) in Stephentown, Rensselaer Co., New York, which at the time grew to be one of the largest "towns" in the country, because of the opening of the adjacent land. The records indicated that Elizabeth Bentley was born in Ohio (???). Can you give me the names of Nicholas and Elizabeth's children? I had only found seven. Nicholas has been reported to have had at least 6 siblings. Is that consistent with your records? Yes, we have been able to track a LARGE number of Needham's descendants, and there are about 110 "Camps" in the family file. Was there someone in particular you need info on? The Milo and Sarah (Northup) Camp marriage (1826) seems perplexing since she would have been VERY young. Could this have been his sister, Nicholas and Lydia (Palmer) Northup, Sr.'s daughter? Best regards, Clyde ;-)

    2. Rick-- None of your Northup family names are familar to me. My research shows Anson first settling in Stillwater, Minn in 1838. He built the first hotel in St. Anthony in 1849. In 1848 he built the American House in St. Paul. He drove the first herd of cattle through wilderness countery from the Wisconson River to St. Croix. His son Charles was the first white child born in Croix falls. He served in the Minnesota legislature from 1857 to 1858 representing the counties of Morrison, Crow Wing and Mille Lacs in the Senate. His father Nicholas died in 1859. I seems likely that families with the same name and settling in a territory with few people would have some connection. Maybe we can find a link. Dick

    2. Clyde-- The only info on Nicholas Northup I discovered recently in some family papers. He as well as his wife (Elizabeth Bentley) were born in Steointown, Van Ramslay County, New York. No cause of death was listed but the year was given as 1859. He apparently fathered 14 children, 9 of whom survived to adulthood. His daughter Sarah married Milo Camp in 1826 in Canervango, Catorogus County, New York. According to my information, Nicholas father, also named Nicholas, became a Free Will Baptst preacher and preached until he went to live with his daughter Lydia who was married to Arnold Bently. a brother of the author of Bently School Readers. Do you have any info on the Needum or Camp families? Thank Dick
