At this point I do not think Vander and Varnum are even brothers. Vander was born Dec 23, 1821 in Yates County who are his parents??

He has pretty good evidence based on an 1855 Census report for Steubentown, NY. that Vander and Varnum are NOT one and the same. Vander Northrup (33) was married to Sabra Stoddard with one daughter, Sarah Ann in 1855. Varnum Northup was 16, the son of Needham and Mary M. Northup. This would be Needham III, and Amanda (Mary) Rounds, as Clyde suggests. (Note spelling differences) As for Varnum's wife and children, he has other Bible records that show his wife to be Irene Davis. They were married in 1861. Varnum is listed as missing in Civil War; Vander died in prison during Civil War. Rick Northup

Tentatively I would suggest that Vander's parents are Needham and Amanda Mary (Rounds) Northup, 3rd. Needham the 3rd was born in Yates Co., New York, and apparently moved with his large family to Kent Co., Michigan after 1851. A close accounting of the census records for Yates Co., New York, particularly for Potter may help you. Best regards, Clyde :-)

There seems to be no proof either way. There is a long line of Northups going back from Henry Northop of Hertford County, England. There is much hard evidence that shows name changes that are very significant. Henry was born Northop and married Northup. This, to me, is the most persuasive evidence that he was the Father of Stephen, who was born in 1625, not 1633 and married to Elizabeth Harrington, another unproven fact. It is well-known that the Kingston Northups spelled their name that way and other branches used the final "R" or maintained the original Northop or Northoppe. It is also well-documented that there were Harringtons in the household of Stephen Northup of Kingston, Rhode Island. I can find no history whatsoever for this supposed Hampton Northup of Fliushire; Falins, Wales. If you can find evidence to the contrary, I would much appreciate seeing it or hearing about it. Thank You; Rick Northup

Looking for information and confirmation on the following Northup line. My Nancy (Ann) Northup was married to James Eldred circa 1805. They had the following children: a son, Betsy, Fanny, Elvira, Cloe, James, Abigail, and Saloma. My great-great-grandmother Abigail Northup Eldred (above) was born 5 June 1827 in Granville, Washington County, New York. Now, a short while ago I received a WFT submission that listed my Nancy Northup as the daughter of Joseph Northup (born in Rhode Island) and Sarah Wood. Both passed away in Hebron, Washington Co., New York. Joseph in 1830, and Sarah in 1805. A letter to the WFT submitter of this line received no response, and I would like to confirm this lineage. Also would like to know about the family. For reference: Nancy Northup (born in Hebron, NY) was the daughter of Joseph, who was the son George, who was the son of Immanuel, who was the son of Henry, who was the son of Stephen Northup. Any help or lead appreciated. Regards, Bernie Long
