Hello Peter, My ancestors moved from the "Wapping" where they worked in the coal mines in Newcastle upon Tyne ( via South Shields) to Thornley, Easington Co Durham as the mines in they worked in in Newcastle were closing and the ones in North Durham were opening up. I know this from the parish records where children were born and census info. I even found some children had died here that i didn't know about. This is the link to records held by Durham County Archives, you can search them and pay for the records you want if you wish too. I found it really useful to get an idea where they were at a certain time between the Census years. I hope this is helpful to you.
