    3. Hello Kitty There were 5 Newman children buried at Holy Sepulchre Ashington between 1887-1942. The relevant (by date) ones are:1893 Charles Walter 18 months 5th Row, Ashington1897 Mary Ann 4 days Ashington1902 Lena Beatrice 6 months 41 Chestnut Row, Ashington1904 Gladys Nelson 20 months ditto1909 Doris Irene 3 months Market Place, Ashington You have already discounted 3, 4 and 5. Do you have the baptisms or birth certificates of Charles Walter and Mary Ann? There were only two NEWMAN children baptised at Holy Sepulchre between 1887-1912, both children of Matthew Routledge and Charlotte NEWMAN:Doris Irene baptised 1908 - born and died between 1901-1911Matthew Routledge baptised 1912.. You mentioned Bothal church, were all these other children baptised there? Or privately at home because of their health/ age? I don't have transcripts for Bothal church so cannot check there. Something I DID notice - Benjamin NEWMAN b 1880 who was at High Market Place Ashington in 1911 and father of the two baptised at Holy Sepulchre (C of E) was later buried at St Aidans RC church in Ashington! Have you also considered:the missing child was possibly still-born/premature and no record or its birth or death?the child was born to these parents before they were married and passed off as her parents child or a siblings child for its short life? I did check NELSON baptisms at Holy Sepulchre but none "jumped out". Bothal would need to be checked also and surrounding parishes I'm inclined to think the answer, if there is one, lies at Bothal Church as that was Hannah Isabel's parish of birth and where she was living in 1891. The reason I have been interested in your query is that I have an identical problem in my own family - m g grandmother said she'd had 5 children on the 1911 census and one was dead . I've never been able to find a child who would "fit" as the family moved around Newcastle every year it seems! At least your family stayed put - or did they? Miners did move around quite a bit and you cannot always tell by the census. Gen in NBL England > Alice may Newman was born in the June qtr ie 11 > May 1897. > Alice was my Nan. > I have cross referenced all the children born between 1895. For Births then > Deaths. > I believe Mary ann belonged to one of Frederick snr Siblings. > I also have baptisms as well for most of the Children who died. > I got copies of these from Woodhorn in 2007.. > I also have birth and death certs for Alice,Fred, lena and Gladys Nelson > Newman. > I will recheck again yes it is the 1911 census that says they had 5 > children born living.. I eveb have a copy of Doris Irene birth Cert. She > belongs to Matthew Newman. > Thanks for your reply. > Kitty
