    1. Re: [NMB] Thornton Family
    2. Hi Paul,Geoff: I have mention of this family on my extended tree, attached to a rather large FLETCHER family from Cumberland,ENG, although very few actual details. I suspect most of the information provided is from Hodgson, et al, since much information is lacking. The first THORNTON shown on this tree is Nicholas, who died in 1700. He is shown as being of Netherwitton, NBL. He married Ann SWINBURNE, born between 1661 and 1667, daughter of John SWINBURNE, Baronet, of Capheaton, and Isabel LAWSON, of Brough, Yorkshire. John SWIBURNE died 19 Jun 1706, and Isabel died January 1724-25. The only child mentioned is John THORNTON, of Netherwitton, who married Margaret EYRE of Eastwell,Leicestershire. Their child, Thomas THORNTON, married Mary MEABURNE, daughter of Anthony MEABURNE, of Pontop Hall, County Durham. Mary MEABURNE is said to have been married earlier to Thomas SWINBURNE (born c1705), son of William SWINBURNE (Second Baronet Capheaton), and Mary ENGLEFIELD, of White Knights, Berkshire.
