    1. Re: [NMB] Elizabeth FAIRLESS? sealing of probate for Graham
    2. Nivard Ovington
    3. Hi Graham It means the testator had assets in both England and Scotland Curiously there is no mention of a will or testament on Scotlandspeople OR in the Probate Calendars on Ancestry for an Elizabeth FAIRLESS I would have expected both However there are both entries for FAIRLEY In Scotland GALLOWAY ELIZABETH 06/03/1888 OR FAIRLEY, 32 ROSE STREET, INVERNESS, WIDOW OF DAVID GALLOWAY, OF 28 GLOVER STREET, PERTH, D. 12/12/1887 AT DENNISTOUN, GLASGOW, TESTATE INVERNESS SHERIFF COURT SC29/44/23 And in England Probate Calendars (Ancestry) 1888 FAIRLEY or GALLOWAY Elizabeth 4 April The Confirmation of the Commissariot of Inverness dated 6 March 1888 of James Robertson as accepting Executor Nominate of Elizabeth Fairley or Galloway of 32 Rose street Inverness Widow who died at Dennistoun Glasgow 12 December 1887. Sealed. Now you might expect a mistake in one and certainly could be in both but seems unusual, are you sure she was definitely a FAIRLESS? All three sources are of course a transcript so errors can creep in to any of them You can download the will/testament on Scotlandspeople for a small fee NB I have taken the liberty of changing the subject line as it does not seem to have any relation to your enquiry Nivard Ovington in Cornwall (UK) On 25/05/2013 02:36, Graham & Christine Fairless wrote: > Hello Everyone, > I have come across an entry in 1888 in the Index to the Death Duty > Register, which says that Elizth Fairless d. 12 Dec 1887, will proved > Inverness 6 Mar 1888 and resealed London Apr 1888. > > Can anyone tell us what Resealing a will means and the circumstances in > which it is done? > > Thanks very much. > > Graham in NZ

    1. [NMB] Elizabeth FAIRLESS? sealing of probate for Graham

    3. Thanks very much for your reply Nivard. It is a scan of a hand written index and on re-examination, you are right - it is FAIRLEY. The descending "y" went into the ascending "h" or similar on the line below, and is fuzzy as well. Yes, the title was not connected; it was the title of the email I "replied" to for the address. One should pay more attention! Thanks for changing it. Thanks again.
