Heather: I note that the wedding you seek has now been discovered, in St John [the Baptist}'s church in Grainger Street in the centre of Newcastle. I have therefore concentrated on seeking the baptism of John Harle for you. I note it has been found that in the 1861 census he said that he had been born in Wallsend. Unfortunately, although I have, in my database of Northumberland baptisms, all those from Wallsend at that period, I cannot find a suitable John Harle. My first reaction was that I should report the following family. They are the family of Robert and Catherine Harle and were: Mary Ann (bap at Wallsend 1816 Apr 7), John Sanderson (bap at Tynemouth 1820 Jul 26), Catherine (bap at Tynemouth 1822 May 24) and Margaret (bap at Tynemouth 1828 Jun 25). Perhaps John Sanderson Harle was your John and he had a "late" baptism, after the family had moved from "somewhere within Wallsend parish" to somewhere within Tynemouth parish". I'm afraid I don't have the full details of the parents' address nor of the father's occupation for those baptisms. However, on further searching, I found that there is another candidate for your John. That is the baptism of John, son of "John and Sarah Heril" at Wallsend on 22 September 1816. The address was simply "Wallsend" and the father was a "pitman". I could find no further siblings. The birth year of 1817 seems to have been arrived at by subtracting the age of 44 from the census year 1861. Given that an age of 34, even if correct, means "over 34 but not yet 35", he could have ben born in either 1816 or 1817, depending on his birthday, so unless the name "John Sanderson" means anything to you, I tend to favour the John Heril entry. Over to you - it's your choice.
