    3. Heather: According to the H M Wood transcript of Ryton parish register the baptism was the last of a block of about half a dozen which seem to have taken place on November 1st 1772. Where that happened, the clerk (or Wood) only put the full date against the first one of the block, but I'm pretty sure that all were on the same day. The next "bock" was on November 8th. The address is given as "Winlaton" which, as you will know, was the largest village in the parish, even larger than Ryton itself, thanks to Crowley's workmen and their families. Now for the uninteresting bit, but which I feel obliged to mention. I think you know that I myself am from Ryton. However, my Nicholsons were busy coal mining in darkest Cumbria in the 1770s, so those Ryton people are nothing to do with me!
