Christene: I can find nothing closer than a 1798 (much too late uinless it was highly-delayed) baptism for Joseph in Corbridge, either in my own extensive index or in the last (1992) microfiche edition of the almost-comprehensive IGI. I would normally suggest looking at the register of Halton church, which is just outside Corbridge, of which parish Halton was a Parochial Chapelry. However, that also features in both my index and the IGI. Given that your information is correct - ie that it is from a reliable source and has not been mis-read or misinterpreted, I have to ask whether the baptism could have been in a non-C-of-E church. Roman Catholics were strong in that part of Tynedale and there were early Methodists in Hexham, as well as Presbyterians all around, so there is definitely scope for that. As far as Catherine Forster is concerned there is such a baptism in Corbridge registers - but in 1777. That seems too early to be yours, so my comments are much the same as before. I notice they were married in Newcastle St Nicholas (now the Cathedral) in 1807, so can we take it they had children baptised there during the "Barrington period", which lasted until the end of 1812 and during which details such as the names of the parishes of which each parent was a native were given? Such statements were not always correct. Perhaps they could be interpreted as "the earliest I can remember we were living in Corbridge", which, of course, does not mean they were born or baptised there. If I am right, and if they had several children 1807-1812, do all those "native of" statements agree with each other? I have yet to find any index that gives their baptism although those of their children are. Does anyone know where the records may be? Christene ..
