After retiring I decided to look back into my family history and have found the following Matthew Barrass a coal miner born about 1834 Benton Square Longbenton Northumberland England died August 22, 1894 Earsdon Square Northumberland England He was married December 20, 1855 at St Bartholomew's Church Parish, Longbenton Tynemouth Northumberland England to Ann Isabella Bell borne February 9, 1838 Gosforth Northumberland England-July 4, 1903 They had 6 children - Elizabeth, Andrew Bell,Sarah, Margaret, Samuel [1876-1955-My Great grandfather] and Annie Oldest daughter Eliz. married Henry Lamb and Samuel married Sarah Ellen Gibbeson Of Earsdon Northumberland I am trying to find out: 1. if his parents were indeed John Barras[s] 1790-1871 Backworth Tynemouth Northumberland England and Eliz Manuel 1795-1886 Backworth Tynemouth Northumberland England 2. any information I can glean for the Matthew Barrass and Annie Bell family as my Tree branch moved to Canada and contact with the family was miniscule. Joyce: It could be that the web site you have been given contains a lot of material which could help you, but if you are a comparative beginner, as seems from your introduction, perhaps it should be mentioned that not everything which appears on the internet is necessarily correct - that is, the person who put it there (and who you don't know: nor do you know anything about their ability, integrity or sources) may not have researched it as thoroughly as you would hope. Of course, not all internet statements and pedigrees are dubious, but it does pay to be sceptical about anything you yourself have not researched from original documents, or from facsimiles of them. Possible baptisms for your Matthew would include (from my own Northumberland baptism index): 1832 Mar 11, son of Robert & Elizabeth, -----, bap at Earsdon 1832 Jul 15, son of John & Elizabeth, Benton Square, pitman, bap at Longbenton - it seems he must have died before 1835. 1835 Jan 18, son of John & Elizabeth, Benton Square, pitman, bap at Longbenton 1838 Oct 21. son of Matthew & Ann, Benton Square, butcher, bap at Longbenton Geoff Nicholson -----Original Message----- From: Joyce via <northumbria@rootsweb.com> To: northumbria <northumbria@rootsweb.com> Sent: Sat, 8 Nov 2014 23:07 Subject: [NMB] Matthew Barrass Family of Northumberland After retiring I decided to look back into my family history and have found the following Matthew Barrass a coal miner born about 1834 Benton Square Longbenton Northumberland England died August 22, 1894 Earsdon Square Northumberland England He was married December 20, 1855 at St Bartholomew's Church Parish, Longbenton Tynemouth Northumberland England to Ann Isabella Bell borne February 9, 1838 Gosforth Northumberland England-July 4, 1903 They had 6 children - Elizabeth, Andrew Bell,Sarah, Margaret, Samuel [1876-1955-My Great grandfather] and Annie Oldest daughter Eliz. married Henry Lamb and Samuel married Sarah Ellen Gibbeson Of Earsdon Northumberland I am trying to find out: 1. if his parents were indeed John Barras[s] 1790-1871 Backworth Tynemouth Northumberland England and Eliz Manuel 1795-1886 Backworth Tynemouth Northumberland England 2. any information I can glean for the Matthew Barrass and Annie Bell family as my Tree branch moved to Canada and contact with the family was miniscule.
