I am trying to pin down a person who I believe to be my ancestor but have hit a brick wall. I have Thomas HETHERINGTON marrying a Hannah HETHERINGTON, (maiden name too), in 1771 at Ninebanks. In that marriage entry Thomas is shown to be of Limestone Brae and Hannah of Whiteley Shield. I have the baptism in 1748 of a Hannah Hetherington dau. of Jos' Hetherington of Whiteley Shield which appears to fit with the Hannah in the above marriage and with her burial in 1815 aged 68 she died at Whiteley Shield. What I have not found is a baptism about the same time for Thomas Hetherington of Limestone Brae so do not who his parents were etc. Where would someone born at Limestone Brae in the 1740s likely to have been baptised? I realise he could have been baptised in a non conformist church or chapel but am not sure which of the various churches and chapels around the Allendale area would be the nearest to Limestone Brae at that time, to give me a starting point. Has anyone else come across such a baptism as I am looking for perhaps? Any ideas very welcome. Regards Jenny DeAngelis
