I am grateful to the responses to the list after my posting. I know that there was a connection to the PORTER family (not PROCTOR, Geoff) because of Jacob Snowdon’s will dated 1848. In it he mentions “my nephew Charles Porter son of Charles Porter snr of the Spital Tongues Colliery near Newcastle. It is “family gossip” that says that Jacob’s daughter, Mary. married a Porter but perhaps it was his sister Mary who was born in 1755. The search goes on! Maurice Snowdon in Sheffield
