HI, records from 1924-1927 Does anyone know how much info is normally, in the court hearings both for receiving orders 1924 and closure of the bankruptcy in 1927 May there be info in the evening chronicle also Thanks for any help Edith talbot
Edith: Although not an expert on those records I would expect only the barest of information. The name, possible address and occupation of the bankrupt and possibly the amount of their debts. In a newspaper such as the Evening Chronicle, I would expect either nothing at all or else just a brief statement of the fact they had been made bankrupt. Discharges from bankruptcy would similarly be probably mentioned only as having taken place in the official records and probably not at all in the newspaper. However, I may be wrong! Somewhere around 1980 the Society of Genealogists published on microfiche two books of which the originals were in their library. They were (1) "Alphabetical List of Bankrupts 1774-1786" and (2) "Bankrupt - Directory 1820-1843". I don't know whether any similar publication continued to be produced into the 20th century (though I doubt it). If by any chance there was such a one, then a search through some library catalogues (eg the British Library) or through the British National Bibliography might, as a very long shot, produce a result. -----Original Message----- From: Edith Talbot via <northumbria@rootsweb.com> To: northumbria <northumbria@rootsweb.com> Sent: Wed, 21 Jan 2015 19:42 Subject: [NMB] NEWCASTLE COURT BANKRUPTCY RECORDS HI, records from 1924-1927 Does anyone know how much info is normally, in the court hearings both for receiving orders 1924 and closure of the bankruptcy in 1927 May there be info in the evening chronicle also Thanks for any help Edith talbot ..
