If so Where from? Pom: Houghton le Spring Parish Registers are held in Durham County Record Office, County Hall, Durham City. There they have them microfilmed and there will be copies of those microfilms in Tyne and |Wear Archives, Blandford House, Blandford Square, Newcastle upon Tyne and also in Sunderland Public Reference Library, Local Studies Dept, Fawcett Street, Sunderland. Indexes 1813-37 (but without addresses and fathers' occupations) can be puchased on microfilm or CD from the Northumberland and Durham Family History Society, 2nd Floor, Bolbec Hall, Westgate Road, Newcastle upon Tyne. As for transcripts, the BTs are probably on the Mormon Family Search site and the typescript of the NDFHS fiche etc will be in their Library in Bolbec Hall. Just one further point. Penshaw church served part of what was the original Houghton le Spring parish, and its registers started in 1754. Also West Rainton registers begin in 1825 and Hetton le Hole registers begin in c1832 (?), those parishes, too, having been carved out of that of Houghton le Spring. Much the same story as for the registers of Houghton le Spring applies to those of parishes formed out of that of Houghton le Spring. These Record Offices and Libraries will all operate a "to be paid for" look-up service, so I would recommend you to seek the Houghton BTs first - if they are indeed included. Remember that that part of the Mormon site is a Beta one and so neither complete nor necessarily accurate. Geoff Nicholson
