    2. John - I think that you are referring to 'Ward's End' not 'World's End'. As far as I can remember it is about half way along the A68 between Inkerman and High Stoop. I seem to remember an old map showing this name for the High House Farm which is along the road from High Stoop going towards Satley but I have never been able to establish that this farm was called Ward'd End.. Regarding the castle that you mention Newrick Grant says in his book (his notes were written the 1940s when he was in his 80s) : "There used to exist near Tow Law an ancient cottage better known as Cobley Castle. It was situated on the high hill adjoining Old Hedley Colliery and is now demolished. It was supposed to be an old shepherds hut."
