Hi Alan, thank you for that added information. Yes you seem to be dead right about Wards End. I've just been looking on old and modern maps and High House Farm certainly seems to have been called Wards End in Victorian times. My grandad Ayton was born at Harperley in 1872 and obviously used the older names. The OS maps online also show Dan's Castle clearly marked for anyone wanting to find it. While we are identifying buildings. Does anyone know where Low-a-Moor house was exactly(I've seen a variety of spellings for it). My grandad Alexander Faill Moralee was born there and I think it was between Cornsay and Langley Park somewhere.
