Dear Listers I know that this is the Northumbria list but recent postings seem to have included Co. Durham so I hope you will not mind me asking for help on the following. The family mentioned did end up living in Newcastle by 1915. I have tried many times to trace Thomas ARMSTRONG, Mary WEAVER and daughter Alice Ann WEAVER on 1871 census but still cannot find them. I’ve tried searching for each of the 3 names in full, by surname only giving year & place of birth, by first name only with place of birth etc. None of the usual methods has turned up anything. 1843-4 Thomas ARMSTRONG was born in Stockton 1850 Mary WEAVER was born at Great Grimsby 4 Dec 1868 my great grandmother, Alice Ann WEAVER, was born at Cape House, Carlton, DUR. No father’s name shown, mother Mary WEAVER 25 July 1870 Mary WEAVER married Thomas ARMSTRONG at Sunderland Registry office by certificate. Address for both parties given as Vane Tce, New Hendon, Bishopwearmouth. Thomas was at that time working as a Screwer in an engine fitting shop. 1871 they are all unnacounted for 21st Jan 1880 Alice Ann is baptised as Alice Ann ARMSTRONG in Great Grimsby 1881 they are living at Wolviston RG11/4893 F 97 p 2. Thomas is described as a farmer of 175 acres 1891 they are living at Stobbart Hotel, Escomb RG12/4068 Folio 199 pg 6 with Thomas as Innkeeper 1901 they are living at Spoor’s Buildings, Escomb RG13/4645 Folio ? Pg 18 and Thomas is a General Labourer 1911 they are at Woodside, Witton Park RG14PN29714 RG78PN1721 RD547 SD1 ED12 SN415 Thomas is a farm labourer Any help gratefully received.
