    1. [NMB] Deaths from influenza 1918-19 some house nos S Shields
    2. Hallo I was casting around the net looking for information on old Thames Street and found the following URL: http://influenza.sph.unimelb.edu.au/data/S0001/chapters/app_6.pdf It is a Report on an Investigation of Epidemic Influenza in South Shields 1919, D Morley Mathieson M.D. p529 - 540 It gives a table for the following streets, a brief description of the streets, the rents and the occupations of the dead person in each house. Obviously no names are given. It strikes me that this is a period following the latest published census and that it might help anyone searching for a relative in Death section of bmd's if they had someone in one of these houses in 1911 census whose occupation matches that in this table. List herewith: Lawe Cottages Group - nos 55-60 Hepple's Court Group (Waterloo Vale) - either 2 or 4 Osborne Avenue Group - 43-61 odd nos only Marsden St Group - 133-151 odd nos only Hill Street Group - 7/9/11/12/13/14/15 Simon St Group - 16/18/20 Eglesfield Rd Group - 66-84 even nos West Park View Group - 145 - 167 odd nos Double Bow Group (Colliery Cottages) - 1-10 I am sure that most of you know this but the abbreviations in the rent figures l s d stand for pounds shillings and pence respectively. The description of the Colliery Cottages is fuller than the rest of the groups and the rent ratings system is explained. In view of the current influenza threat, this excerpt makes pertinent reading. i hope this will be useful to someone Bye Glenda
