Ingrid, I apologise. You are quite right. Just before your posting appeared another person not on this list sent me the 1871 Census entry but omitted the word 'widow' and I thought perhaps Francis was away from home on Census night. I was also misled by a private member's entry on Ancestry.com which gave the death of a Francis b 1808, with wife Margaret, as being on 1 Sept 1876. I belatedly realised that this did not agree with the correct Census entry you sent, which gave Margaret as a widow.
