    3. I am back on the list after being absent for some time. I have tried for years to find my great great grandfathers marriage James Landles / Landals to Sarah Whitehead (James was a cooper) I found the baptisms of two of the children in Chapel St Berwickshire I have scrolled the marriage records from 1845 to 1860 with no luck, it looks as if their first child James was born 1850 I would think if they had their children Baptized they would have got married. James lived in Chapel St Berwickshire before marriage on the 18541 census and married to Sarah on the 1851 Census with children James & John. They had seven more children. James it appears traveled back & forth to Scotland. Any help in finding the marriage of these would be really appreciated as then i would be able to find out James fathers name . James was born in Scotland 1827 Sarah his wife was born in Berwickshire about 1830. Joan On N.S.W Central Coast Australia

    3. Hi Joan Is it possible that Sarah Whitehead was married before? I would look at any marriage of James to a Sarah. I had the same problem with my Joseph HARDY and his wife Sarah VINTON who were married in 1870. It turns out Sarah had had a very brief marriage to Arthur BOWMAN in 1860 when she was only 16 - so Joseph's wife turned out to be Sarah BOWMAN. The name BOWMAN was never mentioned on the birth certificates of any of her children! I never did find what happened to Arthur BOWMAN, A year after the marriage [1861] young Sarah was in the workhouse with a young child, and Arthur had vanished. Hope this suggestion helps Heather joan armstrong wrote: > I have tried for years to find my great great grandfathers marriage > James Landles / Landals to Sarah Whitehead ( > > >
