    3. Does SKS know the location of Crawshay or perhaps Crawshaw Street in 1911. It appears at RG14/30450 RG78/1748A as Crawshaw but on a birth certificate of the same year as Crawshay. Many thanks Ruth in Hambledon, Hampshire "The Cradle of Cricket"

Ruth Crawshay Street ran between Nixon Street and Hawks Street in the area then known as New Gateshead. Crawshay Street is long gone, but Nixon Street and Hawk Street still exist but the area is now known as Saltmeadows. The street is named after George Crawshay who was a partner in the the iron company "Hawks, Crawshay & Sons", who, among many other things, built the High Level Bridge. Also named after George Crawshay was the Crawshay Inn, on East street, a few hundred yards west of Crawshay Street. A great- uncle of mine, John Alexander "Jack" Axford (1901-1980), was the publican there in the late 50s/early 60s.
